I've seen 100's of these on line but this morning I got an e-mail from Instructables (a DYI website) that used a Monti CC box and it has a built in amp. It maybe something that I'll try (when I have any time).

Not bad (see video below.) Depends more on the quality of the neck and the pickups used as most are electric. The music shop around the corner from my office has a couple but I've not played them.

Here's a video of a guy playing one.

That would be cool, can't wait to see it when it's done.

Thank you for the link. Way cool. Sounds like a fun project if you decide to make one.

Bur made one for me as a prize for the Movember fundraiser. He used a God of Fire cigar box and some God of Fire bands for the frets. It's a three stringed acoustic instrument. It looks great. I don't have an ounce of musical ability, so I am not qualified to comment on the sound quality.

Thanks, Delta, my post about making these got eaten by the hotel WiFi resetting mid-post. They really aren't hard to build, and for electric ones I get a piezzo buzzer from Radio Shack (RIP) and a 1/4 inch jack.

I think I've made 8 or 9 now, hardest part is routing out the 1x2 "neck" and cutting the box for it to pass thru. The God of Fire box is a bit heavy as a "guitar body" but nowhere near as bad as an Undercrown box! But those are solid enough to handle more strings/more tension. I've used a few Padron boxes which are strong enough but still light to resonate well.
