OK looking for some advice. I've introduced myself in a previous post but trying to navigate the plethora of cigar brands and sizes is a bit overwhelming...

I am asking for a little push in thre right direction.

Would anyone recommend a nice mild to medium mild cigar? I personally love monte No. 2s. But would prefer not to spend a small fortune on my budding cigar habit. Anyone know of a comparable cigar?

So you're asking what is a suitable substitute for a Monte #2 which is one of the best cigars made and an all time classic. None that are less expensive. I'd suggest Monte #4s as a less expensive alternative. The Le Hoyo du prince is would also be a good substitute. YMMV.

Perhaps comparable was a strong word. How about reminiscent of a montecristo no.2. Or similar to... but not necessarily a Cuban cigar.

Just tried one of these that i bought. ( Oliva Serie V Special V Figurado) surprisingly, they label this as a full flavor cigar. I'd label it more of a medium full cigar. Really liking it so far. I'm about 1/3 of the way through it. Let's see how it goes once i get about 1/2 way through it. That's where i usually have to stop smoking any cigar other than a Cohiba or a Monte. (Gets a little too rough for my taste around there)

If you like the Monte #2, try the Petit Robusto.

Wouldn't consider the Fausto anywhere close to the Monte profile, and it's definitely not mild to medium.

Inexpensive mild to medium cigars - check Fuente's Hemingway line.

All good advice, and as a one-time n00b to cigars AND this forum, some of the FOGS that have already posted gave good advice: Don't load up on any one cigar or flavor profile if new to cigars. While some will remain long-time favorites, it took me about 2 years to develop my palate and tastes, and had I laid away boxes in coolerdors they probably would be wasted.

Agree with Delta and cacman on the AF's - maybe also pick up a Tatuaje Tattoo - fairly mild, but a good smoke for the $$ - also if you like the Oliva Serie V, try the Oliva V Melanio

If a Monte or Cohiba gets a little rough for you at the half way mark, you might be smoking too fast.

Or storing too wet.

I had issues with that when I first got into cigars. Local shpo would usually be a bit over humidified, as were the cigars I ordered online. And using the pg gel and other common humidification devices in my humidor was keeping mine too wet as well. Switched to heartfelt beads and Bovedas and haven't had the problem since, unless smoking rott or too fast.

I've been enjoying the G.A.R. Miami STK American Puro lately for a mild/medium smoke. All American tobaccos. Pretty tasty.

no, i don't have a problem finishing a monte or a cohiba. it's when i try a cigar that i'm not familiar with. for instance, i just bought a oliva serie v double robusto. only got about 1/2 way though it before i let it burn out. but the oliva serie v special v that i bought i smoked that down to a nub and enjoyed every puff of it.
