It doesn't matter what side of the table you were on, what have you heard (or said) that yo'll remember for a while?

Q: You said in your personal history statement that you've used marijuana. How many times have you used it?

A: Hell, I don't know... 9th grade through 12th?

During one job interview that I was highly qualified for the HR guy pointed out the nuclear power plant visible in the window, my response was EEEEEEEEK. I didn't get called back for the job or the second interview and wouldn't have taken the job anyway (too long a commute).

Back in the early 80's, I interviewed for a job at a private lab, owned by a group of 20 or so physicians.

Basic premise was these doctor's patients would have their blood drawn in the doctor's office and then it would be sent to the lab, (that the docs owned), for analysis. At the end of the month, the docs would get a dividend check.

The interview went like this:

Me:

Let me get this straight . . . The docs own the lab and send their patient's blood work there for analysis and then get a check at the end of the month ?

Interviewer:

Yes.

Me:

So theoretically, the more patients they send, and the more tests they order, the BIGGER their check is at the end of the month ?

Interviewer:

Well, yes . . . I guess you could look at it like that.

Me:

That doesn't sound very ethical to me.

Interviewer:

It doesn't matter . . . It's LEGAL !

I worked there for about a year, until one morning the FBI came in unannounced and told everybody to take their personal belongings and leave immediately. They confiscated all of the billing records and shut the place down on the spot.

I was interviewing candidates for an open position years ago. One guy came in wearing a cowboy hat (fine by me, but take it off for the interview? nope), tank top, well worn Wrangler jeans and boots. Well not a great first impression for someone "dressing for the job they want".

About half way through this SHORT interview, I asked "are you chewing Copenhagen?"

"Yeah man, I always have a chaw in"

We also interviewed a helicopter pilot (WAY OVER QUALIFIED) and he actually asked if he'd be able to leave for flights while he was oncall for us.....

I had some idiot in an interview who thought he would be a big shot about his integrity or honesty or some crap like that. Total BS, painfully obvious. All he was looking to do was be a wise ass. Good thing all we needed his dumb ass to do was drive a truck. He's good at that. Kind of like a trained monkey. We just humor him and throw him a banana sometimes.

I had an applicant that wanted to take one week off after working three weeks. He was very qualified and we needed to fill position so I said OK as part of the interview......but then when the time came he was upset that I wasn't going to pay him vacation time!!! At my company it takes a year to qualify for paid vacation time and that was the deal. Sorry bub. And next he wanted paid for jury duty after he got back from his time off. When I said of course you can have time off for jury duty, but with no pay, he mysteriously did not qualify for selection. The whole time he was an hourly employee on 90 day probationary period. Needless to say after a few more incidents including the need to leave early and come in late, he did not continue on the payroll. Work seemed to be an inconvenient cramp to his lifestyle.

I tend to have a sharp tongue and low bs tolerance. One time I called out an interviewer with a "we both know thats bullchit" and she was caught a bit off guard kinda making an explanation, I said how about we move on to your expectations and I'll let you know if im able and willing to fulfill them.

I got the job.

Wasn't really much competition for it, and I was well qualified, and had already had an informal chat with the person who would make the hiring decision.
