I won a fiver of these recently for pretty good deal, helping a buddy out who is new to cigars. He likes the mild Connie wrapped cigars. Saw some good reviews and ratings for these so figured why not. Just tried 2 of them with him in the last 20 minutes. Both had the same unusual flaw. About 5 min in, both sticks developed an acrid taste and we had noticeable brown liquid (tar?) At the cap, I mean enough to where you could wipe your finger across and it would turn brown. We dissected both sticks and no foreign objects, but the stuff seemed to be coming from the binder. Anyone ever seen this? Now smoking a couple RB Genesis the Project and all is well.

Tar is a weird and fickle phenomena, at least from my experience.
No rhyme or reason, or consistent cause that I've ever determined.
It just happens sometimes. I recut, puff lighter, and put the cigar in my mouth a bit more to keep lips/tongue off the head as much as possible.....................and then ditch it if it still tasted crappy.
Acrid taste can come from tar, poorly fermented tobacco, RH that's too high, among other things.

I had a tar build up on a 60 ring Asylum once. I had punched the cigar and the entire hole was loaded with tar, so I clipped it and it smoked just fine afterward. You might try resting them a while before another smoke.

sounds like the sticks are"wet". Try dry boxing them for a couple of weeks and re-visit. Could be roach vomit though......#-o

the new waves are notoriously wet when they come in... they used to be worth aging a little when I could get them for a buck plus a little shipping... now that they regularly sell for $2+, they've been scratched from my list...

Yes, thanks, google said it was "sap" from the baccy leaves, but tar seems more likely based on the taste it gave the stick. As I started in the OP, this was almost immediately after lighting, and was a nice cut with a guillotine. will rest/drybox the other3 and see what happens. Thanks
