This house was my Grandparents. It's a brick fortress of a house that was built in 1990 by my cousin, who built just about every house in this County for 30 years in the 60's-90's.
My Dad bought the land from a cousin in 1977, who's father had owned the land since the early part of last century. There is a lot of land along this road that has a family connection that goes back 100 years.
In the early 90's, the County widened the road that my Grandparents farm house was on, so they built here. Their farm land eventually became the City of Douglasville's new police station & maintenance facility.
This land is bordered by the Shriner's facility, which I thought was an identical 12 acres, but it turns out that they also own the land directly behind me, too. I never see them, as they're here one night a month. The land eventually butts up to the power lines, so I really only have two neighbors. One down through the woods who I never see, and one on the other side of the road.
One cool thing is about 1/3rd the way back on the property, is a creek that bubbles forth from the land that feeds the Sparks reservoir in Sweetwater Creek State Park. It it the main source of drinking water for the City of East Point.
The only thing I don't particularly like about it, is its hard to cross to get to the back side of the property, which is gorgeous, pristine pine woods. That creek seems to be the dividing line of hardwoods to pine, and it's beautiful back there.
I see deer here all the time, and I'll have to one day soon get a bow. I'm a little wary about using my rifle here.
I've lived here before, as I was house sitting for several years during the housing slump. The house got broken into while it was on the market back then. My parents wanted to sell the place again two years ago, and I moved out. They never got an offer in two years, so I offered to buy it from them, as they were tired of paying out of State taxes, insurance & upkeep. Thankfully, they gave me a huge family discount.
The greatest thing about living here is still feeling my Grandparents presence. I'm always remembering the love & life's lessons they taught us all. I really do enjoy using all their very old kitchen items & yard tools.
