Usually a guillotine cut with a Xikar, but I have a punch and scissors as well.
I have a nice swiss army knife in my golf bag that came with a set of cigar scissors as one of the attachments. Got it here many moons ago. It works great.

With some of the increasingly larger ring gauges, the older cutters do not open wide enough to work correctly. The scissors never fail.

If I am sharing a cigar with someone for the first time and they do not have a cutter, before i cut the cigar I always ask them "So how much should I cut off Rabbi? - just a little off the top?"

use my Palio most of the time but, I have a 30.06 case that I sharpened with a reamer and knocked the primer out for easy cleaning. Seldom use the punch though, I find the Palio superior to any other cutter I've owned.

I use a pocket badger as well but when I've left him at homo or in the car I use a v-cutter. Sometimes I'll make two cuts in an X shape.

I usually use a Colibri V cutter. As delta1 noted, the theory behind the V cut is that it'll trap moisture and resins, keeping them away from your lips and tongue. The Colibri and Xikar V cutters are a lot nicer than some older designs because they invert the shape of the cutting edge. The V cut is actually made from the outside in, typically resulting in a well defined cut without any tearing.

Just got my first v slice works good but sometimes I have to recut with Gullotine to get the smoke I want

Not a punch fan unless it's all that's available, tar always seems to be an issue with a punch cut for me and interferes with the draw as the cigar progresses. A dull punch is also a good way to damage your cigar.
Observe where the cap ends and stay at least 1/8" above it or you start to unravel.
Don't lick or suck on your cigar first, just makes the cut messy.
Perforators SUCK.

Just a advice for what works for me from experience and trial an miserable errors.

So I don't start a new thread on this, what cutters are ya'll using for different types of cigars. Over the last couple years I have been using a punch on anything that I can, even the smaller vitolas. I think the only time I use anything else is on torps where I use my Xikar Multi-Tool Scissors (love those things).

Curious because I got a Xikar V Cut for Christmas and not sure the best scenarios for use. Can you use them on torps without cap breakage issues?

I also need to get a new punch because mine is pretty cheap and getting dull. I am thinking I want to go with the Xikar Punch. Thoughts on the best option?

From what I recall, the xikar punch is fairly sharp and well made, but it's big. Punches a larger size hole than the el cheapo punches.

The new Palio cutter is a cheap China made knockoff of the original. Weighs about 1.5grams less and doesn't cut nearly as clean as USA made version. Glad I got for small change else I'd be feeling totally ripped off. My three year old one cuts far better, chipped blades and all. Beware!

They're sharp little bastards, too. Careful! Makes a nice clean hole every time (unless your cigar is too dry or crappily-constructed, and that's on you or the roller, not Xikar!)

gave up on vee's and punches years ago. oddly, seemed to me they trapped more tar.
always use my palio from Mikey!!! or my xikar, which just got replaced at my local shpo.

have no idea where my Cuban Cutters (perfect cutter?) is, but I think danmd referenced one a long time ago when he wrote about the guillo with a backboard...it was idiot proof and the clipped cap would not land on the floor. pretty good for under 5 bucks years ago. should prolly look into replacing it.

I usually do scissors or double guillotine. Used to punch a lot but I got tired of the falling apart on my keyring.

When I forget my cutters, I usually do a toothpick or cut a cross across the cap with my fingernail.
