I share Macs and Whistles sentiment. Was about to be homeless, my landlady was crazy and tossing me out. In the middle of the crisis I found a recruiter and enlisted, because of that it's always weird to me when people thank me. It's those moments that I realize that for all intents and purposes, I joined as a mercenary.

Thank you for the thanks though.

I do not care how or why you joined - it is simply the fact that you did and you served our country. For that alone I am incredibly thankful. You made a decision to protect and defend me. Thank you.=d>

When I look back, I had an opportunity while in college to join the Marines (PLC)'s and I did give it some thought. In hindsight, I wish I had made the commitment and done it. One of my bigger regrets.

Don't sell yourself short. I did what I did because I really didn't have a lot of options, not because I was brave, or out of a sense of duty.

Prolly why I feel weird when people say "Thank you for your service". I did it for me, and then my wife and kid... not for anyone else.

Not that I don't appreciate the sentiment, just that it seems misdirected being said to me.

my father, WWII...Army

my uncle, Korea...Navy

they were both members of the Greatest Generation, and both would have liked me to thank all of you for your service, as would I.

Belated Veteran's day thanks to all those who serve and have served. You have given me the freedom to be the screw up that I am.
