Is there a recent discussion of mild cigars? I feel like taking a break from the powerhouses. I'm looking for a low strength cigar, from a respectable company, that has a lot of spice. Probably a Dominican? Probably very white ash? Maybe something like a Bohemian Bamboo North Beach or a Victor Sinclair Vintage Select Doppel Gordo (more on this one in a minute), but with more spice and better manufacturing consistency. Maybe the Ave Maria Immaculata (Nicaraguan, I know), or the Cuesta-Rey Cabinet? Has anyone tried the budget-priced Dominican Cream?

ps: I got a 20-pack of the VSVSDG and something had turned the white part of the bands light green and the gold part of the bands... I think it was black. The bundle packaging with the giant "band" was the normal white and gold. Something happened to the cigars or bands before the cellophane and bundle packaging, but I've still to find out what. I lit one (which was probably foolish, but I was working and not paying attention). It tasted like chemicals and had an awful aroma. I set it in the tray and lit another (which I now find hard to explain) with the same result. I wrote to the company - nothing. I took them to my local shop, Aficionado's Fine Cigars in Manchester, TN, and the owner could not tell me what had happened to the cigars. Any clues?

I tried reading your post a couple times and quit. I have no clue what you're talking about...re that specific cigar.

There are some here who will laugh at your example of 'VS' so soon after 'respectable companies'....

However, based on what you've written that I actually could understand, I think that you should try VS Primeros. I absolutely hate most VS...with three exceptions and Primeros is one of them. (The other two are the old triple corojo 440's or whatever they were called...and the only one I still buy: the petite 55 corojos...best twenty five cent cigarillo available.)

Right, that's why I was looking for something better than the VS, especially since I had problems with the VSVSDG. I haven't had any more VS cigars since the company gave me no explanation for the - who knows what happened to them - cigars. I'm just looking for some good quality, strong cream or maple or floral spice, mild cigars.

Imo, the best mild creamy smokes are good cigars aged for a few years.

Most of the cheaper Fuente lines are mild-medium. You'll get a milder smoking experience and not sacrifice flavor or quality.

Then the cigars he did win were all bottom barrel entry kinda garbage that he'd offer up reviews like he was writing for Cigar Aficionado...it was comedic gold.

I haven't had many mild cigars that I really liked but one I would suggest is the h upmann vintage cameroon. Also, for the price, the manowar virtue is half alright too.

If you want CHEAP, go with La Vieja Habana Connecticut, but ONLY in the corona gorda size. It's a mixed filler cigar and the bigger ring gauges burn hot and get squishy.

Never had one, only thing it makes me think of when I see it is "scroll down" or "next>>".

I tried quite a few VS cigars when I was a noob. What I remember is that they were pretty well constructed, but boring/bland in the blend department.

^^This one right here - I'm pretty much full body and strong preference but the H.Upmann Vintage Cameroon is a really flavorful smoke, won't break the bank but not a crap bland bargain barrel cigar.
When it comes to cigars, booze, food it just depends on if you want to lower the bar a little or drop it to the floor and lick the floor underneath it.

Yeah the vintage cameroon is what I always recommend for newbie smokers I drag to the cigar bar. something on the mild side with enough flavor to keep you from getting bored.

Borndead, I tried both the Oliva Connecticut and the La Perla Habana White Pearl. The Oliva was the best. I also tried the Olive SerieG, and that was even better. Thanks for the tip.

Dr MaddVibe, I used to be a Rah, but now that I've discovered the Ron Mexico, (I just call 'em "the Rons" for short) I've finally broken my fascination with Padron 1764 and La Flour Dominicanyo Double Lihairo. Some friends gave me (just gave them away I'm not kidding!) 19 of them, and one that was only partially smoked, and Wow! Don't even bother, 'cause all you're going to see is a pink "outbid!". Hard to find, these undiscovered gems can't even be had at the most elite shops. I always thank those friends for giving me "the Rons". And at that price! Now I give all my friends "the Rons". I had some hats made that say "Got "the Rons"?" # big flavor, horsey-spice, carrot-rubber, feline pepper-musk

It's not going to be easy to find an inexpensive mild Connie with a lot of spice. The spice comes with as price. Good luck...please let me know if you do.
