Due to PA's crazy weather changes so far, I've found 3 of my humidors are having some issues.

Tried re-seasoning them, tested the seals, and have tested locations in the house, and cant get any of them to hold humidity.

So either somethings happened any my seals are shot and now I need new humidors (Not a big issue, I only need one new one as Im only sitting on 30-40 cigars at the moment), or I'm missing something. Tried the following locations in the house:

Inside my armoire desk: Door closed, out of drafty locations and direct light

On my shelf in the walk in closet: Same as armoire, but shares two outside walls.

Inside my extra bathroom: same as the other two, except a bit cooler.

Any ideas on how to sort this would be appreciated.

Get them to spike up at %71, and within 24 hours they drop to 59%, and after 48 they're at %51

What are you using for humidification?

What are you using to measure humidity?

What are you using to regulate humidity?

I'm assuming you're using cheap Chinese humidors. You'd be much better served with Tupperware and a 2 way humidification system.

My cheap Chinese humidors are holding at 68/68%, I'm using hygroset adjustables that have been calibrated recently.

I tossed in an extra 65rh boveda pack a few weeks ago in my 7 drawer 140 count, and a 69rh in my 50 count that sits on top of my 7 drawer Chinese made humidor.

Checked my Coleman cooler this morning and it was 68/71%.

I don't have a humidifier on my furnace either. I realize each house is different and in a different location. So what works for me might not work for everyone else.

Buy beads or bovedas.

I fought it for a bit, then went with them and never an issue since. Will have some fluctuations when adding a new box or two, but been rock solid for a long while.

For the cheap China humidors, I have a few. I silicone a sheet of plexiglass to the inside of the base, remove the seal slats, then glue and clamp back on the lid. If glasstop, silicone the glass in place before replacing the sealing slats. They hold tightly.

In my pelican case humidors that I lined with Spanish cedar, I have a pound of beads and a dozen bovedas. Haven't had to recharge for about a year now, mostly because the case seals tightly. Fresh purchases recharge the humidifiers, and if anything, been a bit on the high side with the 65% beads n bovedas.

I've tried the gel beads, floral foam stuff, and xikar crystals. None did the trick. Which is why I went with the better tool for the job.

I'm thinking about just lining one of my 50 Cal ammo cans with Spanish cedar, and using Bovedas/beads and seeing if that does the trick.

Buy a cooler.

Put your humidors in the cooler.

Spend your money on better cigars.

And move somewhere else.

Just throw em in a zip lock with a 69 boveda pack and call it a day.

Ammo boxes are good storage too, got a few of those as well.

I have done that with an NVG case, it does alright. just don't forget to insulate the inside or the metal case will transfer cold/heat to much and throw things off.

as for what you are using, I started with that stuff and had a horrible time keeping my humidor at the right level even when the conditions out side the humidor where at 70/70. beads work wonders for my set up, but something that can regulate, take out and put back humidity is what it looks like you need for your current set up. if the temp changes and you have nothing to take out the humidity that is put into the air it will fall short or over shoot every time because it is putting out a perfect 70% to the relative temperature and cant adjust with the condition change. just my two cents.

Simple - get beads/Bovedas. And you are low.

All joking aside, a humidor full of properly humidified cigars is far more stable than just a few cigars n a larger empty space. If you only have 40 cigars total between three humidors they better be ten count units or you are way too low. Move all cigars to one humidor, charge it properly, and see if that makes a difference.
