Ok guys. Here is the dilemma I have found myself in, and I am hoping you more season herfers have been in the same boat. I currently have 2 very small desk top humidors, and my 10 finger Xikar travel case. They all seem to work just fine, but I am running out of room. Having been on this site more and more lately, even after my wife's fussing about me buying more and more cigars, I need more room. I would rather not buy more and more small humidors. I am thinking about re-purposing a piece of furniture into a humidor to house all my stuff centrally. Plus, I am a cheap ass, or so I have been told. What would you recommend, or would you recommend going a completely different route. I am certainly going to keep any infused cigars separate as to not effect the flavors of my more standard sticks. Please help me figure out what the hell to do. Thanks in advance guys.[frypan]🤬

Before the FOG's come yelling. I know their answer: COOLERDOR. Grab a decently size humidor at Walmart or wherever, and turn it into a coolerdor.

Re-purposing that piece of furniture may not be as easy as you think. Jay is right.... the coolerdor is the way to go for a "cheap" guy.

Meanwhile I've finally found a local Spanish cedar supplier, so on my next vacation i'll be converting 5 .50 Cal cans from my military days into Ammodors.

You can get 180-200 humidor for cheap. I'm sure! Just don't get carried away with buying!

I was in the same boat about 5 or 6 years ago. I had a couple of small humidor and tried the coolidor thing. I found that I was just buying stuff for the sake of keeping it full. I eventually bought an el diablo humidor and it's worked out fine. I have plenty of room and it keeps a consistent 65-67 RH. You can probably find one on here pretty cheap.

I understand what everyone is saying, and I can see the advantages to what is being said. It seems as though I am passing on items I would like to buy and try because I don't have the room to store. Maybe I am just weird. I just don't want to have to keep buying humidor after humidor to keep up with what I want. I would rather spend the money once and be done with it. Plus, I would think it would be better to keep everything in one place and only have one humidor to keep consistent versus trying to keep 5 or 6 all doing what they are supposed to do. Also, I want something that I can keep in the house. that looks nice. I personally would not want a cooler just sitting in my living room. I know my wife would not want to see that all the time.

Do the math. How many cigars a month do you smoke, times twelve. If you break 900 then you'll need a coolerador!

Wineador. I am in the process of making one now, and am all kinds of excited. They will look a lot nicer than a cooledor. Lots of sites out there on people's wineador builds, and the end products look really nice, plus a great deal of storage.

Repurposing furniture into humidor isn't the easiest way to go about this. If you have the tools and skill set to pull it off, you'd likely already have it done.

Couple questions and suggestions.

1 - where do you live? I.e. do you need temperature control? Is it humid or dry in your home?

2 - how many cigars do you want to have on hand? Also do you mostly buy singles / 5packs or do you buy mostly by the box?

My suggestion if you want a nice display humidor is to buy a nice display humidor. Not the cheap China humidors, but a well made one. Yes it's expensive, but it will work, and the finish is much more durable than the cheapos. If you buy by the box, then an end table humidor or tower.

Alternatively you could do a wineador. If you live in a hot area this is perfect as you can also control your temperature. Looks decent, but depending on placement and decor, an appliance may not have the ideal aesthetic.

Or keep it out of view and have something cheap that works, with a cooler. Keep one of your small desktops stocked, all the overflow in the cooler. Or Tupperware if your temperatures don't fluctuate much. Just make sure you use proper 2 way humidification system like Heartfelt beads or Bovedas.

Running into the same issue and in a pinch due to buying too many cigars without having the space, I gathered up some XL zip lock bags from work. I was able to store 50 sticks in each bag with one Boveda pack. It was a short term fix but allowed me to keep purchasing when the deals were there 🙂

900 per year??? There no doubt is a mathematical formula, but in general terms, increased storage need is the difference between monthly purchases and monthly consumption - not necessarily tied to minimum annual burn rate. Increasing storage volume need is only casually related to total consumption per year due to increased interest in aging or having a variety on hand. I do not burn 250 a year but still constantly run out of storage. Its like my wife with her shoes....I see something interesting and I have to get it......seems to happen faster faster than burn rate. I am trying to control this to a slower buy rate so i can cap my storage needs.
