I am considering "converting" a mini-fridge to a frigidor. Not going to be plugged in and doubt I'll bother removing the guts. Beyond using boxes and trays as humidity stabilizers and a few pounds of beads is there any other advice/words of wisdom/warning for such an endeavor?

Are you considering installing circulation fans or is it small enough not to bother with? I have a cabinet and i need some to help balance rh throughout

Post a picture of it empty so we can get an idea of the shelving, potential box/cedar requirements, and other design needs.

Of course we won't say anything about it being unfilled, low, LOW, LLLOOOWWW or any shenanigans like that. Who, us?

AKA I'd think a small fan would probably suffice-don't some folks put 'em in coolerdors?

I would remove the freezer parts, if it's like a mini fridge I'm envisioning.
It will make an air tight seal..........burping will be required, which won't be an issue if you're going in there to grab smokes.
If you're going to use it for extended rest/aging, just pop it open once or twice a week for a bit.

I've got a dead 16 bottle wine cooler I've been thinking about throwing cigars in... will watch your thread for ideas just in case... 😟

Here's the real question. Has anyone tried utilizing a temp controller from a homebrew setup to hit around 60 degrees or is it simply not possible to regulate the humidity when the fridge is running?

I know you can buy humidors with temp regulators so it seems possible to me.

Much nicer than my intentions. Keeping the glass shelving for now with thoughts of ordering/building a shelving structure down the road.

Oh, you mean a compressor fridge?

Ya, you shouldn't use that for cigars.

Use a thermoelectric fridge only.

I've seen people use the glade battery powered ones without the glade inserts...runs on a timer and lasts a month or two.

Computer case fans work pretty well. They sell molex to ac adapters to make it easy.

the issue with battery powered computer fans is that when you run say on battery power like a 9v they drain the battery very quickly, like in 24 hrs quickly. I went on fleabay and looked for a 120v fan with variable speed control and found one that contained 2 4" fans already mounted in a case with speed control and power cord already attached for under $40. They are extremely quiet as well which you should include as a keyword during your search.

I would imagine that 1 fan would be sufficient for a fridgidor but not sure. Not sure what to suggest about rrunning the cord out but if it was me I would drill a hole and run the cord through and then reseal it with some cigar friendly adhesives.
