The Cardinals brought him & Yogi in the same Limo for a tryout. The Cardinals signed Joe & Yogi went to the Yankees.

Being a FOG, I was lucky enough to see both of them play.

Anyone recall the story he told on tv about a visiting team base runner trying to take second on a close call and the ump is looking down closely on the call and calls the runner safe but he had thrown his thumb up in the air and the crowd was cheering. the ump said to the runner, you know you're safe and the second baseman knows you're safe but 35000 people see my thumb sticking up.....you're out!

I thought i remember joe telling this story on carson. the way he told it was spectacular.🌫
