A puppy recovered during a drug bust in Tustin, California has tested positive for illegal drugs including heroin and meth, KTLA reports.

Bubba, a terrier mix puppy, was found when police entered 40-year-old Joshua West's hotel room in March. Along with Bubba the police found a "large quantity of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia."

After the puppy was turned over to Orange County Animal Care, police were contacted and told that the dog may have been under the influence of drugs.

According to a statement by police, the puppy "was found to have heroin, methamphetamine and nicotine in his system due to living with his drug using owners."

Although it is unclear how the drugs got into Bubba's system the police department says it was "due to living with his drug using owners."

After being treated for drug addiction, the puppy is now said to be in great condition.

"Bubba is still receiving medical care and once he is fully recovered, he will be placed with a rescue organization who can find him a forever home that can provide the proper care he will need in the future," the post states.

Police have asked the Orange County District Attorney to charge Joshua West with animal cruelty based on the puppy's toxicology results.
