At a zoo??

Zoos are safe, my friend.

Not like those life risking circuses.

They've got clowns and stuff.

Daddy, can we go to the zoo?

No dear. It's too dangerous.

When my wife and I were in San Diego 20+ years ago, we went to the wild animal park (or maybe it was the zoo?).

The gorilla area was awesome.

It had a knee high stone wall and a 20' deep by 20' wide dry moat between you and the gorillas.

Two teenage boys (about 13 or 14 years old) were mocking a very large female gorilla, who was getting noticeably upset with the two fellas.

Finally, she picked up a rock about the size of a properly inflated football and underhand tossed it right over the moat and it struck the wall in front of the boys. I mean like a foot or two from hitting them!

the boys nearly shat themselves, and looked around with guilty faces. No more mocking.

But I was shocked at how easily the boys could have been hurt. Or worse.

Nothing is 100% safe 100% of the time.

Maybe the zoo can use this event to evaluate their enclosures, but there is no way they should be blamed for what happened.

As for the family, if they sue then I hope they get counter sued.

they should be going on a world tour thanking the zoo every chance they get. Because their 4 year old/ 3 year old kid is alive BECAUSE of those zoo employees.

The important thing is the kid is alive. I am sure they will review their encosures and try to make saftey improvements. It's to bad the Gorilla died, but better safe than sorry, unless you are a PETA goof.

That's the debate. Why is it so important that this kid lived?

I wonder if they would have killed the gorilla if it killed the boy?

Would they have shot the gorilla if it'd been an albino?

Since the incident there have been over 100k signatures on a related petition. (A change.org petition called for the parents of the 3-year-old boy to be held responsible for the death of Harambe, a 17-year-old male Western lowland silverback gorilla.)

Over here in the cigar world, we can't even get 20k signatures to save the jobs of countless people and keep our culture alive.

The kid kept telling his mother he was going swimming with the gorilla, she said no, blew him off and turned her attention elsewhere, which was obviously not smart. Then she said "accidents happen". If this kid went to the zoo with school and the kid gave the slip to a chaperone and ended up in there the mother would be irate, outraged and already adding up the millions she'd be suing for, but it was her negligence so "accidents happen".

I know just a few things for facts:

I wasn't there

no one here was there

I pray none of the judges here ever have to eat their words about being perfect with their own kids.

so smugly certain of her being an unfit parent...based on what? She may very well be the worst parent ever, but again, the fact is I wasn't there. But I did see the condemners here when it happened.

Reminds me of the movie "trading places"

When the overcoat information guy was dressed in a gorilla suit and senator Al Frankin put him in the cage with a real gorilla on a train.

I also know a few things for facts:

A child left unattended ended up in a cage with a gorilla.

Kids don't get into gorilla cages if their parent is attentive to them.

Parents should be extra attentive with kids that keep saying they're going to do something extremely dangerous.

And just like some moron that sued McDonalds years ago because their hot coffee was actually hot, this Mother of the Year candidate will eventually sue the zoo for not protecting her child that she wasn't paying attention to.

here's something you didn't know...

the coffee temperature turned out to be well above the limits set by boards of health. It was beyond scalding.

Had it been within the allowable temperature, she would not have been burned, never mind scarred.

The limits are set for that exact reason...public safety.

I'm sorry about the zoo thing. I didn't realize any of us witnessed it.

I will repeat that she may in fact be the worst parent ever, just don't know how any of us could know...but now I know you were there so that's a game changer. Continue condemning. But don't hate me for holding off until I know more than the talking points.

Seriously though, I may end up agreeing with you.
