So I was at my local liquor store the other day looking for something new to try. I see on his shelf he has a clearance on Haig Club Whiskey. I have never heard of it so I start asking him some questions. He said its very good but for whatever reason they haven't marketed it properly and apparently are discontinuing the line. Anyway, the $50 bottle is half price at $25 so I bought it.

I think it is very tasty. So much I went back and bought 2 more at this price before he runs out.

You say what???

Kidding aside drink what you like and like what you drink....

just read a bunch of reviews on masters of malt and they cracked me up (remember I've never had it I just found some of these funny)

heres a few

Very Poor!

It smells and tastes like cheap aftershave!

Awful

Has an aroma that reminds me of a chemistry set I had as a kid. Only redeeming quality is that about 45 seconds after a sip you do get a nice fruity aftertaste. Not worth the struggle of trying to get this down though!

Was this just a bad batch? don't want to chance a second bottle

I was shocked at how bad this tasted, heavy alcohol sting on the palate with a harsh chemical after taste that lingers to the finish.

This bears no resemblance to the comments made by the MoM chaps.

It appears they spent more time on the bottle design than quality testing the final product!

Rank

Quite possibly the worst whisky I have ever tasted. It's howling.

If I looked like David Beckham I'd bottle tramps p!ss too

Truly the worst whisky I have ever tasted!!

The only good thing about it is my Mum would like the bottle to use as a vase. Once I've found enough people I hate enough to offer a dram of this revolting crap I'll make my Mum's day.

Awful taste

The taste is awful.. Waste of money.

Terrible drink !

Over priced !

The only nice thing is the bottle .



One for mixing

As others have said, the best thing about it is the bottle. Definitely one for mixing.



Terrible

Never mind comparing this to a single malt, even comparing it to grain whisky in the same price bracket it's awful, as a stand alone drink it's awful, as a fluid it's awful, I wouldn't even use this to disinfect my toilet, it would do an awful job of that too.

It's crap with a fancy label and if you buy it you support selling a product with fancy advertising opposed to selling product based on its actual quality.

Picked up for 19.99 USD, on ice it is pretty good. Wouldn't pay more than that.

I don't think I've ever written a review before, but this whiskey is pure crap. I'll give them 5 stars for marketing and packaging, but the product itself is not worth your money.

Lovley bottle terrible contents

Honestly one of the worst whiskies I have ever tasted. I have had more enjoyment out of blends a third of the price than this whisky. Gladly I only bought a small taster bottle instead of spending money on a full size one.

I had to do a double take at the bottle at first taste. I thought I might have mixed it up with my rubbing alcohol bottle. But alas I didn't. This stuff is better suited as an antiseptic than a a whiskey.

Marketing at its best, WHISKY at its worst

Cost me £12.00 in a bar in London for a nip. I may as well have set fire to the money, at least I would have had a few seconds of heat from it. This is marketing at its best and WHISKY at its worst! (I have capitalised as I cannot believe how many people on this thread do not know how to spell the word correctly) Poor fishy aroma and taste, simply awful stuff...I was bought a 14 year Balvenie Caribbean Cask for Christmas, now there is a fantastic whisky, for the same price as this swill!

Flavourings?

The branding has been incredibly clever I'll give them that, it appeals to mass market which is something a scotch rarely achieves, however;

The price is equivalent to a decent 12 or even 16 year malt, this tastes like they got impatient, left it for three years, then added some caramel colouring and artificial liquid smoke flavouring (I'm not kidding, the stuff they put in barbecue sauce, it tastes like that)

I've never pretended to be an expert but this is horrible, it specifies no age on the bottle and suggests it's good with ice or for mixing (?!!) what single malt ever says mix it with Coke on the label

Absolutely horrible, intended for the young posh look at my bloody red trousers types who have no idea what they're doing, seriously, most Welsh whiskey is better than this!



utterly revolting

Honestly, it shouldn't even sit on the shelf next to bells. No depth of flavour, unpleasant smell, tastes like cheap vodka mixed with cheap whisky. More thought has obviously got into the crass aftershave-like vessel, than than the actual so called whiskey. Worst Christmas present I've had for years, totally vile, no defending it.

Cheap aftershave

it tastes live I imagine David Beckham smells..



Disappointed

I purchased a bottle under the assumption it would make me a good footballer, handsome & suave.

Imagine my utter disappointment, The reality is it made me sick, I mean really sick, to the point I thought I was going to 'throw-up' my intestines. It had a musky aroma which I can only describe as soiled football socks.

I am Scottish, so I am an authority on Whiskey, Buckfast, Tennants Super & Methylated Spirits,

I have a sophisticated palette, but Haig Club is without doubt the most disgusting Whiskey I have ever tasted, I can only assume that Mrs Beckham was involved as the master blender.

One positive thing, It made me as incoherent and as unable to string together a sentence as David Beckham.

Bad taste

Could have bought 4 cases of coors light that taste a hell of alot better

Mrfwon

Considering the price, you can get a nice entry level 12 year old for the same price. This is rubbish and aimed at those boat shoe wearing, and tight chino short muppets that like JD & Coke.

Pilch Richards

Terrible whiskey over priced rubbish, think it was this stuff that gave me the runs

Nasty

I don't know what this tastes of, but it's not whisky.



stick to football

David beckham should stick to football, if this is what he think's whisky is !

fit only for people that mix coke with there whisky.

i would give zero stars.

only fit for a cocktail

In a cocktail this works fairly well but on its own its just a weak young whisky with hardly any flavour. If this was £20 a bottle then ok but at £40-45 its a huge rip off , defiantly one to avoid unless you plan on using it for cocktails and even then there are much better and cheaper whisky's for that



Not completely horrible.

This is wayyyy overpriced. I'd put this in the 20-25 dollar mark. ANY J Walker has more flavor. Its probably too approachable for someone wanting to enter the world of whiskey. The bottle is a work of art. The stuff inside leaves a LOT to be desired. I'd drink this if i had nothing else, but falls in a DISTANT second to any real whiskey.

Beautiful Bottle, Ugly Whisky

I initially read the reviews and thought to myself it must be one of those aquired tasting whiskies.

So I went out and bought a bottle. Don't make the same mistake, not sure how they got away with bottling this, it's just plain terrible. Like I said you're paying for the bottle, I literally poured it out after the 2nd sip and filled it up with a bottle of Redbreast 12y old. Looks good on the shelf but save your money.

28th October 2015

I just dumped the whole bottle

A friend and I took two sips of this donkey piss. Then I dumped the whole bottle on the fire, the fire failed to ignite like Beckham trying to win for England. This was worst purchase ever at the duty free. You would be safer to lick urinal pucks and then drink this dirty English piss.



What is this?

I'm not entirely sure this is whisky. On first sniff it's like cheap vodka. I got a sudden proustian rush of adolescent park bench piss ups but nothing more sophisticated.

First taste? There's nothing there. I'm a huge fan of good blends which are often vastly superior to most single malts but this is just......nothing.

It doesn't taste of anything much. A slight caramel hint but mostly just alcohol. It has no body. Add a dash of water and you don't see the release of oils a good blend shows. It makes you feel like a desperate alcoholic as you drink it as it has no other purpose than to get you drunk.

I love good whisky and I think I appreciate a good one but I don't think this stuff qualifies as whisky at all. It's a sort of well packaged drain cleaner. No one could say they enjoy it. Haig have made a spirit for peopl who find supermarket vodka too taxing. It's the worst whisky I've ever tasted.

You could get two bottles of the blessed Johnie Walker Black for one of these. I think you know what to do folks.

A cunning plan

I bought this mainly out of curiosity... and an expensive mistake it was.

The bottle looks great but its been relegated to the back of the spirits cabinet due to its vodka-esque taste and harsh aroma. Alternatively if you have a father in law you dislike, give it to them as an after dinner apéritif... this will ensure they never visit again.

Mission accomplished.

Mr. Magoo

This is really bad, even for single grain spirit. A waste of whisky money

Bill Maclagan

This is perhaps the worst whisky ever distilled, if it actually was distilled. Very bad.

Haig club

This is awful whisky.

Aqua Velva

All this is is a bottle of Aqua Velva, rebranded. some of the worst scotch i've tasted.



Flimsy

tastes like a watered down mid range brandy. There's "delicately flavoured" and then there's just "flimsy". What little flavour you get from this, it dissipates in seconds. Seemingly a cynical attempt to commercialise whiskey to the kids of today's social media. Well they can have it....with coke, I'd suggest.

Joeseph Rogers

Bought a bottle of this as a whim from Waitrose, they had it on offer, reduced from £45 to 19.95. I wish I hadn't bothered. I agree about the aroma, very chemical like, the taste is very bland but smooth. A waste of £20.

There were several in there that found it to be a mild but pleasant grain alcohol.... they were just boring LOL

people are opinionated idiots (self included)..... I'd try it and I'm sure it's fine especially at that price. I picked up some Jamison Black Cask for not too much more than that that I really like.
