Brown recluse Spider - I hate those bastards. Our entire area is heavily populated and when spring/summer arrive they come in the house. Just caught my 4th one in 10 days tonight.

good site if you are not familiar with them.

I heard they love to hide in shoes you don't often wear.

Is this true?

I've heard the nightmares and seen the nasty pics of what they do. I think I'd rather get bitten by a Black Widow

hey bidness from a site

Shoes are quite effective treatment for Brown Recluse spiders. One stomp and they will have no chance of biting anyone. However, you will need to be fast on your feet because they scurry very quickly as this video illustrates. And, of course, make sure there are no Brown Recluse spiders inside your shoes before you put them on your feet!

Bass,

Before Hog and I married I lived about 45 miles North of the Kentucky border in my old family farm house. There was not a day that went by I did not come into contact with one of these little creatures. I was always scared to death they would bite one of the kids. Instead, I got bit on the front of my lower leg. It was hiding in my jeans. I instantly went to the Dr. and they started heavy antibiotics and cleaned out as much of the area as possible. The place on my leg healed well but it has no feeling in that area.

I have a friend that was on the same Volunteer Fire Department squad as me.

One day we were responding to a call, he was puting on his turn out gear and was bitten on the upper leg by a BRS. My friend went on the call not knowing what had happened, 2 days later he's in the hospital. He has since recovered, but we thought he would loose his leg.

The BRS is one bad mo fo

when we were living in Haskell, Ok., back in 1998 my better half was bit by a BRS. The whacko Doc tried treating with steroids. the bite tunneled down through her calf down her leg. we changed doctors and they ended up treating it with a lepracy drug. I had to pack her leg daily with some type of coated ribbon that promotes growth of flesh (for lack of what it's really called). now the only mark she has is a small discolored dimple where the hole and cavern was, in her leg.

strange that you poisted this bass.

my brother was bitten last friday and he saw his "physician" on monday and he told him it was an infected hair follicle......two on different sides of the body at the beltline.....?????WTF??

i saw them on wed. and took him to my doctoe who immediately opened and drained the wounds. they poured copiuous amounts of brown, purulent drainage and were lightly debrided and packed with iodoform gauze. he will see the doc again tomorrow and has had heavy doses of two different types of antibiotics...one for gram pos. and one for gram neg. bacteria. hopefully, this will heal without further surgical consults. he is lucky he wasn't half-dead with some systemic infection. these are some bad little creatures.

Hey Hog,

When I knock you out, I will just blame it on those side effects of the spider bite.

Black Widows do not even come close to how deadly the venom is of a Brown Recluse.

Black Widows are less painful than a bee sting, even ...

Slim be happy. There has never been a documented bite in CA.

I have been researching these bastards for over 9 years. For a while I was sending them off for a study.

I kept one alive for several months feeding it crickets. I put in a very large cricket and it killed the spider.
