I was told by a trusted source to go the CZ route. I don't wish I had...but.....maybe a little....at least back that first time.

Second time, I went another unconventional route....bought it online...lucked into a perfect investment

I think he is against the institution of marriage. I played it smart... no ring but a wedding band for about 15 years. Then I figured she'd earned that diamond... so I got her a good'un.

I have never seen diamonds prove to be a good investment. It’s a scam.

Bough my wife a CZ and used the money to take her to Vegas – She loved it. Years later we shopped for a super deal on a real stone for her. She found a big sparkler for a small fraction of what Zales could do.

If I were you I would talk to the lady and see if she would rather have a CD or a new bedroom set.

Anyway – congratulation.
May your love last a life time.

My woman had a specific brand of diamond and a size minimum.

It hurt. But I got my jeweler to design the band how she would like it in platinum and put a few personal touches in.

Best investment ever... She has barely mentioned a wedding now that she has that and it's been a year.

Wasting money on a ring, wedding, etc.

I'm wholly against marriage as well, but that's another story.

Ring and everything else involved in the wedding industry is utterly pointless and wasteful. Let's spend thousands of dollars on a ring that has only a small percentage of actual value compared to purchase price. (Look at what rings sell for 2nd hand, or better, at a gold dealer. The diamonds are worthless outside of a jeweler selling at retail). Then there's the ceremony and reception. Nobody cares. Most won't remember it, and the people that go are going to be half feeling obligation due to relation or just because they were invited. On top of that, the dress up clothes. Can't just wear nice clothes for the event, everyone participating has to shell out hundreds or more for one evening's clothes.

It's all just a silly waste of money, usually in the time of life where those liquid assets would be better served elsewhere.

Meh don't listen to this get off my lawn crowd and do what makes you happy.

I bought my wife a very high quality certified diamond then had it placed in a simple setting after researching the thing to death. I went smaller and higher quality rather than larger and lower quality but thats personal choice sort of like the horsepower vs. torque compromise unless money is no object. Its worth more today then when I bought it but that's really not the point because I didn't consider it an investment since I do not intend for it ever to get sold.

If you are going in to it basing your decision on the presumption or possibility that things may fall apart down the road and you don't want to lose money on the ring you shouldn't get married anyway. First of all it points to a bleak view on marriage in general. Secondly it proves you are a dumb ass. The value of the ring means absolutely nothing to you if things do fall apart. She keeps it and does what she wants. At that point you WANT it to be worth less LOL.

It's not a waste of money and I wouldn't change a thing. Boats, campers, booze and cigars are wastes of money LOL.

Congratulations man and enjoy the whole thing. The fact I was able to give my wife something she loves to this day is very meaningful to me. It's worth the smile alone. Besides I'm Irish and had to compensate for some other issues and the fact that the diameter of my weiner is roughly the same as her ring finger and I'm a fast finisher means the ring can serve dual benefits.

Money PIT? Sure. A waste of money? That remains to be seen... I suppose it'll depend on how much fun/use I get out of it.

for now, that could change...

anyhoo, a hundred years ago, knowing I would likely be getting engaged in a year or 3, I needed a science course toward my undergraduate degree so i signed up for Minerals and Gemstones 101...pass/fail.

all I wanted to know was how to know a good diamond without hoping I picked a good jeweler.

'bout all I recall, and it turned out to be good info, was the 5 "C"s" (maybe 4?)...stuff like clarity, color, cleavage (relates to the cut), carat(s) and maybe another.

very helpful. especially finding the good jeweler.

Gawd, I was wicked smaht back then. Of course the real gem was the lovely Caren. Hoping you have my luck.

Well.

Nothing is a waste of money if it brings you joy. Ha as well as gives her a smile!

Nothing is an "investment" nor gives an ROI outside of some areas for real estate, Rolex, most Pateks. Cant count on gold or diamonds because when the **** hits the fan it will be food, water and ammo that will get you what you need.

I've made a few very content with small tokens in the form of jewelry, lol trust me it's a good investment.

Look around before you decide what you are willing to spend, then shop for the price you are comfortable with.

Don't rush, don't fall for discount percentage. If it's not a branded product jewelers can make the price whatever they want.

Most important is when she is smiling that's the item to buy!
