Anybody fly with cigar cutter and lighter

I use a V-cutter and they have let that through. Unfortunately, I can't say that about a torch light. They took that.

Actually it was kind of funny. I bought one of those Zippo torch replacements. You take the guts out of the Zippo and replace it with a double touch. Works great. The TSA guy took it and said it was contraband. I was mildly upset, but said, well at least let me have the case. The guy wasn't going to give it to me. I yelled for the supervisor. I asked for him to give me back the lighter so that I could show him something. He handed it back, I ripped the touch replacement out of the case. Handed him the guts and put the gold case in my pocket. You could see the TSA inspector getting pi$$ed. All he had was the torch part of the lighter.

Actually, that is not the most prized possession I ever had taken by TSA. They took my P38 that I had from basic training. Unless you are over 50 or 55, you might not know what a P38 is. Us old guys in the military used to eat what was called C-rations. Today they have MRE's that come in pouches. C-rations were actual tin cans. The P38 was this tine little rectangle of metal with a little barb that flipped out, so you could open a can in the field. We are talking a barb that is probably a half an inch. TSA declared it a possible dangerous weapons. I did hate losing that. I had that bugger for over 40 years. It was simple, but it worked.

Put the cutter in checked luggage or take a risk of TSA taking it. Goes for torch lighters also.

Aks me how I know......

Is there something special about this Paul 2 guy?Like does he glow in the dark, play a banjo with his toes, verbalize words with his farts?

If not I say we castrate him and make him Victor's concubine. He been wooking for wub wong time.

Sucks, brother. I learned the hard way and after the first time those bassards took my cutter and torch I never let it
happen again and put everything but my cigars in checked.

I wonder why you can carry on a regular lighter but not a torch. Ever seen how big the flame can get on a Bic lighter
can get when you remove the limit?

While you may have been sarcastic I bet he took you seriously LOL

I had a fun experience with an airlines recently. After a week of auditing a site I went to a brewpub the night before I left. In my typical arrogant fashion I struck up a conversation with the guy next to me talking about home brewing, what I thought about the beer there, and why I start with the lightest beer when judging a brewpub. We also talked about bbq etc. I then found out he was the head brewer and had previously worked for Deshutes and another large brewer LOL *facepalm*. Anyway, he said he actually liked the conversation because when people know he is the head brewer they defer to him rather than offering opinions (he also agreed with me that their eisen bock was lacking but the rest of the line was pretty damn good).

He asked when I was leaving town and if I wanted some beer. When I said tomorrow at 6AM he said Oh then you can only carry a case or so. So he gave me a case of assorted beers. I only had a large garment bag so I stuffed about 20 of them in there, drank 2 and left the other 2 in the hotel.

When I checked my bag it was 52 pounds and anything over 50 pounds cost an extra $100. The guy at the airlines asked what I had in there and I told him the story. He said take your bag off the scale and give me two of them. The way he figured it each one was a pound. I asked which kinds he wanted, he said, I gave him a couple beers and away I went.

He put the beer on a shelf next to his lunch bag LOL Small town airports. Love them.

I have kept a P38 in my DOP kit for almost 25 years ( if a P38 isn't a tell that you are a FOG, then calling a toiletry case a DOP kit surely will) and never had any issues going through TSA checkpoints. And I used to travel at least every other week. In the proper hands it might be a useful tool, but I would hardly call it a weapon.

Torch lighters are a definite no no, in either checked luggage or carry on. Cutters are a hit or miss, but I always put mine in checked luggage and never had a problem.

Carried many torch lighters in checked with no issue. I used to use the TSA approved container for them but now I don't bother.

Never lost a cutter. Used to carry disposable ones, but never lost ones and now always fly with Xikar in carry on.

In the past, I carried JetLites, so if they got confiscated, I wasn't out more than a few bucks. The past few years, however, I only carry plastic bodied torches....haven't lost one.
Cheapies from either cbid or dealextreme...any cheap PLASTIC bodied torch sails thru TSA smoothly.

Had a cheap plastic torch confiscated in Orlando earlier this year. TSA lady told me I should have but it in my checked baggage. I debated letting her know that her agency bans torch lighters in checked baggage as well, but thought better of it.

Never had a problem with cutters.
