I can't believe what I've been seeing more and more lately! A pack of wolves devouring one of their own. I am so very tired of the name calling and the bickering. When I view the postings I sometimes feel like I’m back in grade school with the bullies beating up the new kids or the kids that don’t belong to the ‘in’ crowd. We're not the FOGs and the FNGs, we're all lovers of the leaf!
It starts with slamming people new to our forum asking simple questions to ‘test the water.’ Is this a place they want to be, where a simple question leads to their humiliation? Would each of you have stayed if the pack had savaged you like I see happening on this forum?
It continues with bickering and name calling over politics. This is just what the politicians want. We attack each other and pay no attention to them. Sleight of hand better than any magician!
It ends with nasty, vicious comments because others make posts that don’t look like your post. Good Heavens!! It may be tough to read, but do we really need to continually bring it up and beat up the guys who do it? Goes back to picking on the kid who didn’t dress ‘cool,’ doesn’t it?
I believe we should respond to each other just as we would if they were sitting next to us at a big friggin herf! After all, we’re here for the love of the leaf, aren’t we? Each one of you is kind and giving and helpful so lets stop the fighting and get back to the real reason we’re here!

We are losing some of the best BOTL from this forum because of the crap that that goes on here and Trish has only partially listed.
Do you wonder where E-Chick, the Deltas and others have gone because of the offensive behavior on these boards?

I for one like the terms FOG and FNG. 'Newbie' has been beaten into the ground all over the internet that I now hate that term. Saying "Hi guys. I'm a FNG" is a welcome change.
Anyway, it seems that the storms have cooled down a bit. Except for 1 or 2 posts, you know, the arguements that generate 50+ posts, I thought the commeradery(sp?) was coming back.

Post the names of the offenders on a list for all to see, along with a link to their offense.
Leave the offenders name for one month for all to see.

I personally would not like to see a list. I think that all of us can see who is out of line and who isn't. We aren't in grade school so there isn't a need to "put their names up on the board" so to speak.

David, you don't have to be bad to get what you want. But we definitely need to put the kids in bed first (and turn the heat up a little more--it is cold in PA today).
Hmmm.... where is that camera? I hope it isn't packed already. There it is. Is it bedtime for the kids yet???

I agree with your observations. I had been personally attacked and it wasn't until one brother spoke up denouncing the verbal accusations that the foolishness stopped and I received some semblance of an apology.
I think when we notice a BOTL or SOTL being unfairly or improperly treated we have an obligation to call the perpetrator on their actions. I don't think lists will work because some of these folks might actually like that. As a final resort the most effective measure might be for others to simply refuse to respond to the posts of those individuals. There is nothing they hate more than being ignored. It is the attention they crave more than anything.

I have seen many good people leave because of the offensive behavior on these boards ... but let's not lose perspective ...
... 'some' of those that left, were also those who offended.

Thanks for the positive responses. Don't worry, there won't be a 'List of Shame' but I think some of you would be surprised at who would be included if there WAS such a list.
Folks, this problem isn't about just the new people coming on board - a LOT of FOGs are equally guilty.
You guys do a great job of monitoring yourselves. I think the suggestion of ignoring them might work, but a little private contact with gentle reminders to the offenders might work even better. From what I see, you all have each other's email addresses. When you see someone doing something that is a little over the top, let them know. It's much more effective coming from a friend than Big Brother (me!) LOL

Think before you fire back a response.
Will what you say make sense or just offend?
Do you mean to offend or counterattack?
Try and be exact with your response, sometimes I ramble and jumble-which is also wrong!
Even if you disagree and really want to "Slimslap" the poster, think about the action and reaction!
I am trying not to offend and be abrassive. Problem is that some folks look for those kind of responses when they post.....yes, you know who you are!
