I put vermouth in the glass, swirl it around and pour it out.

Fill glass 3/4 full of Bombay Sapphire and add two almond stuffed olives.

When I used to have them, I liked to have a splash of good vermouth in there..........not simply coating the glass, or worse, waving a bottle over the glass!
About 6 to 1 ratio, gin to vermouth.

Bombay Sapphire, chilled & up with a twist. Bone dry.

While technically a kangaroo, 1/2 oz vermouth, 3 oz vodka, shake, lemon twist. Just can't drink gin. Something about the herbal/floral flavor is offputting for me. Mrs. Monkey does love the Bombay Sapphire, though.

Dirty Martini!

Fill glass with ice & water to chill. Wave vermouth bottle in front of glass in threatening manner. Dump ice & water that picked up vermouth aroma. Fill martini glass with a chilled quality vodka and garnish with 3 olives. Add olive juice to taste.

I coat the glass with dry vermouth, the use either Burnetts gin or Hendricks gin. 2 olives, if Burnetts garlic olives, if Hendricks almond olives. Even though Burnets is inexpensive I like it.

I don't like the smell of gin. The taste is barf-worthy. It tastes like I imagine pine needles taste like. Disgusting. [barf]

The way I understand it... if you don't use gin, it isn't a martini. 🤔

Me? Ice cold mug... fill it with a good, quality beer. Done. If I must drink booze... scotch. Chilled Macallan 12 or Balvenie doublewood with a couple drops of cold bottled water.

Correct. A "vodka martini" is a kangaroo. But try ordering that at a bar and then you end up explaining it to the bartender. It's easier to describe it as such. But all that other BS is a girl drink in a martini glass.

when I am drinking Hendricks, I prefer a slice of cucumber to olives...there is a cucumber essence to that brand of gin.

sometimes I will drink Haymans Old Tom gin chilled straight up. Sweet enough to drink that way, don't know about other Old Tom style gins.

I do like other gins as well, like Blue Sapphire, queen olives with pimentos.

And I will drink vodka martinis too.

Do I have a problem?

I haven't tried a cucumber slice, but I see how that would work.

I like Juniepero gin (thanks fuzzyNJ) and Bombay Sapphire East as well when I am in the mood for the peppercorn kick.

I actually tried that Juniepero because of fuzzNJ several years ago...maybe it was out of San Francisco? Very junipery IIRC.

If you like a whiff of black licorice, try Death's Door Gin, out of Washington Island Wisconsin.
They use 3 botanicals, juniper, coriander, and fennel seeds.
