my dad was combat infantry. he was actually wounded by a bullet, but he was very lucky and the wound was not that serious. i believe it hit his knee and knocked him to the ground. he was lucky enough to fall to an area that was below most of the ground there. he said the bad guys had a nasty habit of spraying bullets at knee to foot level to take out legs. usually, once you were hit, you were doomed to take a more fatal bullet on the way down or after you landed.

for the rest of my life i'll wonder how he got through the stuff he experienced. he was a very strong man. he still is. i'll always respect the hell out of those that went and came back to a society of ingrates and idiots without losing their sanity. i may go to hell when i die, but those guys have already been there. thanks, fellas.

I know that the up comming holiday is not always a happy time of year for our Vets and I just want to say a special thanks to our Botl that were Nam era vets. I was a peace time navy vet and it was a heck of a lot different for me and the Gulf war vets.

Is anyone doing anything or going anywhere special this Memorial day?

For the past 2 years I have gotten together with a hand full of vets here at the factory, we got outside to the open lawn and sit at a picnic table where there is a flag pole with old glory flying.

We start out with a prayer for our service men & women.

We include all whom have made the ultimate sacrifice. We then give a little thanks for allowingus to get together. Then we finish with a smoke and a BS seccesion, some times one of my friends will shed a tear, and then we all do, remembering something about a buddy that didn't come back or one that has passed in the last year.

I hope all will remember our vets, I hope some will say a prayer for them and those that don't believe like that, will at least say thank you, if one sees a person in uniform this up comming holiday.

While not a vet per se. I hold those who served in high regard. Just finished a four part series of stories last week called the last of the greatest. Talked to a member of the 101st Screaming Eagles, One of the Wake Defenders, a gunners mate off the Saratoga and an AAF B-24 pilot that had been shot in the head during a resupply drop to the Rangers involved in Operation Market Garden. Plans are in the works for a 4th of July special that will include interviews with vets from WW2 up to desert Storm. Thanks to all of you who served and are serving now. Memorial day will be spent at the 45th infantry museum and their rememberance service.

My dad was in the Navy back then also. From 1965-1969 he served and he did time on the riverine patrol boats.

He hated it though and got out after 4 years.

I asked him why he got out after 4 years and he said to me: "How long have you been in the Navy now, son?" At the time it was almost 6 years, so I told him "About 6 years" And he said "You ain't figured it out yet?"
