I have a front loading washer, probably 13 years old.
Friggin thing spins about a billion RPM, but has worked like a charm. Until 2 days ago.
It threatened to shake through the wall.

So I pulled it out and determined that everything was good:
the pistons, springs, counter weights were tight.
The bearings and shaft were smooth.
The thing gets used several times each week and it barely looked 13 months, nevermind 13 years.

So the google machine tells me that the issue must be the "spider" arm between the inner SS basin and the outer plastic tub.
OK.
But it's not available for purchase.
What?
It's considered part of the inner SS tub.
Bad news: That's a $400 part.
Good news: lifetime warranty.

After a 10 minute discussion with Whirlpool CS, I've got the whole unit (SS tub with spider arm attached) shipping out to casa de gater.

Looks like I'll be borrowing socks from Frank until I get the unit in.

Nice that they honor the warranty. Hope Frank has enough socks and underwear to hold you for a while. Just in case

Be sure to check the plastic tub that holds the water. I had the same problem, the spider is made from cast aluminum, not a good material to be bathed in hot water with a lot of phosphates. Ours was severely corroded and two of the three arms were broken. The broken spider allowed the drum "cheese grater like" perforations to cut into the drum. At that time the replacement parts totaled about $600. I replaced the entire washer and never looked back. The spider assembly is a really crappy design.

Isn't it surprising how much concrete there is inside that machine?

Yeah, the concrete surprised me. I mean, I knew there had to be counterweights, but I didn't expect molded chunks of cement.

I assume there is some damage to the inside of the outer plastic drum, but I know it's not leaking. This thing has been a workhorse so I'm hoping there isn't any additional damage once I get it disassembled all the way.

Most every US manufacturer of major appliances share facilities and vendors and components. The difference is often the customer service. And for that, they earn 5 out of 5 CBid smileys. 🇨🇮
Hell, I may even throw in a pack of matches...
