I know I'm gonna get some static from the title, but hell im gonna get it anyway. Purchased a new humidor and it says DO NOT wet/wipe down the inside of the box to season it. All the post on the net say to season it by wiping down the inside with distilled water. Suggestions please.

Don't look at me... I exclusively use very large plastic Sterilite storage tubs. You don't have to season plastic!

Humidors are pretty. Like in "Deliverance"

They just look nice. They're a major pain in the butt and you'll be pestering all of us with endless questions about "I think I F'd up, I opened the lid again today to check the rh!" or Cello on or cello off.

With a cooleridor...and heartfelt beads...in a tupperware container...you can cedarline the thing with broken down boxes later...you won't run out of space AND you will have a quality aged smoke waiting for you to discover.

I did the humi thing got 4 of them a 20 CT a 50 ct and a 200 ct and a 400 ct the 20 and 50 are both empty the 200 count is for 5 x 50 and the 400 count is for 6 x 54 and I keep a 102 qt marine coolerdor all have beads no problems it seems the humidors needs alot more attention
than the coolerdor just my 2 cents wish I would have listened to these fogs on here they have been down the same road

Just forget about traditional pretty wood humidors. They're a pain in the ass, and they're small. If you want a very large one, then you have a very expensive pain in the ass.



Yes. It's almost unbelievable how stable a coolerdor or Sterilite-dor is, once it's up and running and stabilized. You almost never have to do ANYTHING to it. Once in a blue moon, you add water, but MAN, is it rarely!

By contrast, a wood humidor will have all sorts of humidity losses, unexplained swings, and other frequent pains-in-the-ass.... and remember, per cubic inch (or foot, or whatever) of storage space, it costs TREMENDOUSLY more than a coolerdor or Sterilite-dor.


Driving a railroad spike into my cranium is better than those, IMO. But that's just my opinion.

And, you're welcome. I wish someone had told me this when I was just starting out! I wouldn't have several nice wood humidors gathering dust unused right now!

I did the humidors........I did the coolerdors.........Then during the most recent remodel I did the convert-a-closet.Wish I would of done this 10 years ago

Another option- Boveda makes 84% seasoning packs. Throw em in the new humi and wait a couple weeks(check the website to fact check that).

Just as I use all types humidification, I also use all types of storage.
That said, every cigar smoker should own at least one 100+ count, quality wood desktop humi imho.
It's a right of passage.

Seasoning is only needed once IMO and you can just put a cup of water in there for 5 days. It takes longer but you can avoid a federal investigation.

Sounds like a plan guys...I used a little bit of all the recipes that you guys gave me and I have achieved 66% humidity in both my boxes in just a half a day. I tested, calibrated my electric hygrometer and it's aligned pretty close with the factory hygrometer on the desk top humi. However I can already see that the humidity fluctuates as the board stated unlike a coolidor. Thanks and to all a goodnight.
