Hard work on the right things is definitely paying off in my case. At least so far. I'd like to think I'm smart, but in reality, I'm just finding and following good examples. There are a number of bad decisions I've made in this journey. Perhaps the smart thing has been to take responsibility for them and then to learn from them and (hopefully) not repeat them. I'm also lucky. I've worked for folks who recognize the value of potential. And have taken risks by giving me the opportunities for growth beyond my position. I try to be that person with my team. Only about 10-20% pursue the stretch assignments I make available. I'm trying to figure out how to increase this percentage.
