I read somewhere that BOSE stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment. Their high cost is due mostly to their extensive and pervasive marketing costs. Bose build quality is not comparable to higher end stuff, ie particle board used instead of plywood or solid wood, lower quality steel, etc.

Regardless, I have one in my '09 Mazdaspeed3, which was included in an interior upgrade package when I bought the car. I usually listen to sports radio. When I do play music, usually on long drives when radio reception is sketchy, and crank it up, it sounds great: bass notes are deep without vibrating the car and washing out high and midrange. I guess BOSE makes decent auto stereos.

Yes yes, they are on my wishlist.

I'm working on burning through my stock tires so I can justify it.

Problem is, in order to be really effective, I think I also need wider wheels. 9 inch stock kinda sucks... I'm thinking I might need to hunt down some 10s that will fit the rear. I guess 9.5 is as fat as I can go on the front.

Car puts down quite a bit of power, would be nice to lose the wheel hop.

The Hankook Ventus V12 Evo is a close second to the Michelen PSS, to be honest... at about 2/3 the price. I had 2 sets of those, too. Expect 12-15k before they're toast, though.

Alpine head unit and Amps, 8" Diamond Audio speakers/tweeters in the doors, same on the kicker panels firing up at you, 10" subs behind the seat...

Stock now but my favorite was a clarion head unit with ppi amp, Denon front component, Polk rear and custom amp. Loved that system in a very generic car.
