I voted scotch even though I drink more bourbon, because I can get a really good bottle of bourbon for $25. But I like scotch more.

Except I got a bunch of scotch for Christmas... so there's that.
My wife actually got me one of those scotch by the dram boxes, so I've been able to try a new scotch every night!

Bourbon π₯. I like scotch too, but not anything peated, smoked, or dirt flavored. Speysides, and mostly just balvenie. Bourbon just has the great caramel flavors that you just don't get from anything else.

that's pretty close to my feelings...more than just Balvenie, but that's the basic story

Yup... but I like the peaty stuff, too. Have to be in the mood for it, though. Much prefer the speysides.

Speyside/highlands single malt fan. Not keen on the heavy peat or super smokey Islay types.
I prefer Scotch whisky over bourbon as it seems better suited for drinking straight up. I use Bourbon as a mixer, unless it's shots.
Having said that, I'm drinking blended Scotch this evening... π

Scotch but I do enjoy all types and am starting to get into Japanese whisky.
If a Cask Strength scotch isn't available I usually go for that peaty salty complexity of an islay.

Never really acquired the taste for Scotch. Could be that we drank the cheap stuff in high school, got sick because of it and that experience has lingered in my mind. Also, my Dad drank Cutty Sark and I never could stand the smell of it. However, since getting into cigars, have broadened my horizons (...thanks to this site...), almost exclusively with Bourbon with an occasional pour of some really good Scotches (...at least to me...). Never took the time or effort to understand or appreciate the whole peaty / smoky / single malt / blended thing. Maybe if I did I might enjoy it more but at this point in time, my Bourbon collection has filled up enough cabinet space and can't fit too much more to explore.
