Scotch. I like the dryness and it's not oily like some of the American whisky.

Never really acquired the taste for Scotch. Could be that we drank the cheap stuff in high school, got sick because of it and that experience has lingered in my mind. Also, my Dad drank Cutty Sark and I never could stand the smell of it. However, since getting into cigars, have broadened my horizons (...thanks to this site...), almost exclusively with Bourbon with an occasional pour of some really good Scotches (...at least to me...). Never took the time or effort to understand or appreciate the whole peaty / smoky / single malt / blended thing. Maybe if I did I might enjoy it more but at this point in time, my Bourbon collection has filled up enough cabinet space and can't fit too much more to explore.

I like bourbon more then scotch but I probably do let the price difference affect my taste as well. No scotch though can beat that caramel taste that Bakers has.

All bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon.

"The law. The Federal Standards of Identity for Bourbon stipulate what is and what isn’t bourbon. For a whiskey to call itself bourbon, its mash, the mixture of grains from which the product is distilled, must contain at least 51% corn. (The rest of the mash is usually filled out with malted barley and either rye or wheat.) The mash must be distilled at 160 proof or less, put into the barrel at 125 proof or less, and it must not contain any additives. The distillate must be aged in a new charred oak barrel. (Most often these barrels are white oak, but they can be any variety of oak.) If you distill a whiskey in your kitchen that meets all of these standards, congrats, you’ve made bourbon. Also, you’ve broken the law; the ATF is probably outside your house right now."

I like it all. But lately I've been favoring Jameson Black Barrel. It goes down way too easy. 🌫
