Would have worked on Sep 11. Can anyone name one other thing that is being done at the airports today that would have prevented Sep 11? Assume that the box cutters were already on board and there were real steak knives in first class.

Keep the same idiotic workers...
Now we pay them 3 times as much...
... and it takes us three times longer to get through ....

The problem was not with screening it was those hijackings in the past. The hijackers just wanted to be flown somewhere. The passengers were not concerned about their lives until the third plane. This type of thing will not happen again. We now will fear for our lives if hijackers take over and we will treat them like Slim treats threadjackers. The checks are a waste of time.
Why cant they just seal off the pilots doors? Can't they go potty and get a drink before the plane leaves? The accessability of the cockpit dates back many years. That would be the easiest and best thing to change.

I got through security check points with a cutter in the pocket of a pair of shorts I had packed in my carry on. I didn't know it was there. It went throught the wash, but when I put them on sure enough I found it. In LAX 2 weeks ago I was on my way home and the security there was doing a hand held metal detector search on like every third person. I got it, and my father got it.

I think in this case racial profiling should be used. After all it's not white americans(with one known exception)that are the ones in videos wearing towels on their heads and chanting anti american mumbo jumbo. I'll be flying again in about 2 weeks when I leave for air force basic training(I'm a younger cigar lover), and I'm sure me and everyone else flying with me will get the same tweezer and comb search with our belongings(what minimal we are taking). It's so goddamn stupid they way they are paranoid to single out a race because of it's history. If I were middle eastern and people of my race were pulling stuff I would expect it, and deal with it because you NEVER know who is going to pull the next attack. All I know is I hope if it's airline related the passengers aren't pussies and they kill the bastards. Afterall it's only a few of them against a plane of us I think the odds would be in OUR favor.

GetUrOwn..what if the pilot has a sudden case of diarrhea?! Talk about a plane goin down! Everyone including pilots need access to human needs. They should implement the second sealed door like el-Al has. Just stick a door between the passengers and the cockpit door, and stick a bathroom in between that. Its real simple, just not cost effective. They would have to revamp about 8-9 feet back from the cockpit door on thousands of airliners. $$!

Just give 'em a coffee can and a roll of toilet paper.

Bad idea! Pilot carries gun,,terrorist knows where gun is,terrorist takes gun,terrorist has gun.I'd feel a lot safer if some of the passengers were aloud to carry myself,specially if I was one of em.Terrorist takes gun,other passengers shoot terrorist.

Uh, hello! What about the news that a large number of airport workers were employed using fake ID's/Social Security numbers??? Who's profiling the HRD's choices?

AND, not every Muslim terrorist is of Middle Eastern descent...what about the ones in the Philipines, etc..?

IMNSHO, Bullwinkle is right ... actual security is not possible and the airlines/airport/government/police/etc are keenly aware of the fact

BUT, the APPEARANCE of security is of vital importance to the viability of the airline industry ... as much as making the skies safe, making potential passengers BELIEVE they're safe (and willing to buy a ticket) is what is actually being accomplished ...

But again, IMNSHO, the next incident is not likely to come from that direction ... terrorists know now that passengers on airplanes will no longer be peacefully herded to the back of the plane ... one of their 9/11 objectives (perhaps one even more significant than the WTC) was foiled because passengers knew the old maxim of compliance with the hijackers was not the path to safety ...

Surprise and shock are key elements of what makes terrorism effective ... their airplane card's been played ... their next move will be one that we've not anticipated or prepared for ... so, I don't give a big pink s**t if it's called 'profiling' ... call it what you like, but if our government, our police or we individually are to foil the next attempt, we need to be alert to unusual and suspicious activity and quick to act ... period.
