Anyone run one? I've been considering one for a while and on my last camping trip, over 8 hours of towing time, I had three close calls and while drunk at the campfire I got a notification that one on my amazon wish list had a fire deal, so I ordered it, and it's here once I got home.

Two were jackholes passing me on the left, only to swing back to the right lane and immediately hit the brakes to get their exit. I was having issues with the trailer brakes for the first half of the drive home and one of them almost got a bumper full of truck. Maybe 3-4 feet of room, under full brake.

The third one was someone I have no clue what they were doing, but I couldn't get an opening to get around them for a good 5 miles. Minivan going about 45 in the right lane. Had an opening and moved over, they gunned it and pulled way out in front. Moved back to the slow lane at 60mph which is where I tow with the camper. Then had to hit the brakes when they were doing 45 again. Wash rinse repeat. Assuming insurance scam shoppers.

In Indiana, rumor is if you hit someone's rear bumper it's your fault. I've never been there, I can't say whether or not it's true. I've been rear ended twice, both hit n runs, but otherwise never been in an accident with another vehicle.

So, worth the $200 or so for the video evidence collector? Or are they pretty much ignored when something happens. I feel like it would give me some peace of mind that I could submit video of the incident if/when it occurred. But last time I was rear ended, I grabbed my phone and hit record, walked to the back of my truck and got the driver's face, license plate, company name on the side of the truck, the damage to both vehicles, and the guy reversing and taking off full throttle. The cops were not interested in the video. Just told me "yeah, they usually get away" and "hard to prosecute if I didn't see it myself" I HAD F-ING VIDEO!

Anyways... arguments for/against? I suppose it would be beneficial if the other party tried to file a suit against me in civil court. But could it also hurt me? The camera I bought but haven't opened yet records gps speed, G force and direction. So it would put my actions under a microscope if called into question. But I feel like the right lawyer would consider 0.3 seconds to be too slow a reaction time given my racing experience, or that I could have swerved instead of straightline braked, both at an equal level of tire grip/gforce but without hitting their client...

I dunno. Anyone else run one? I'm trying to justify keeping it, and justify returning it to myself and I can't argue one way or the other.

As a thumbrule, if you rear end somebody, you are at fault. There are Pass and Squat teams (usually with four people in the car you hit) who are looking for a payday.

My advice, for people passing you on the right, is to drive faster.

My consulation fee statement will be in the mail.

That kind of situation is what I'm looking to avoid paying for...

On the highway, I'm a slowpoke. The right lane is my home. I don't get passed on the right unless it's a jackass using the shoulder.

60mph unloaded I get 16mpg
65mph unloaded I get 13mpg
70mph unloaded I get 11mpg

60mph trailered I get 11mpg
65mph trailered I get 9mpg
70mph trailered I get 6mpg

I do 60. Or less if traffic isn't whizzing around me. If I'm not holding up traffic, I'll sit at 54-55mph. If I can hold it steady there, I'll be 13-14mpg.

It gets very expensive to go fast when you've got a big truck.

I feel your pain.

If I get 16.5 mpg on a tank of gas, I'm a happy guy... then again, mine is more self inflicted because I'm usually hauling ass every where I go :)

In any case, I've tried on a few tanks of gas to go for best mileage, but the best I've ever done is about 19.5.

If I tow my boat with my truck, I'm 55-65mph. Usually around 60. Law says trucks with trailers 55. I get around 13 mpg.

My friends truck has a big, honkin' diesel. I get it up to 65 and set the cruise. Gets around 13-14 mpg.

Oh, and you could get a GoPro session for $150 and mount it on your dash. Video without all the extra info, but unless you spend a little coin for a disk with a lot of space... not as much recording time.

Check your state laws as it varies.

Some states could have very heavy restrictions on the admissibility of the footage, including things like event triggers, pre-roll / post roll recorded footage and auto-erase times, extra information on vehicle staus. even required placards on the vehicle.

1. If your not first, your last.

2. Dash cams are great idea, thought about getting one for the semi. Only problem I can think of is if you are at fault in an accident you then have footage implacting your guilt.

3. MPG’s are only a number.

4. Don’t even get me started on people’s inability to drive with common sense, if so many people had any idea how close they were to death everyday just to save a few seconds it would blow their mind. That or they really just don’t care idk.

My truck gets 12.9. A few miles less when I'm on the freeway doing 95.

To the "O.P" ^^^

It seems the dash cams have come way down
In price...
At BOSCOV's the have those "as seen on TV"
$19.95 deals...they probably suck though??

All's I KNOW IS...
I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE FOR THE FRONT AND REAR BACK IN 2013...
To catch all those **** FBI-SSG AGENTS and ALL THE early released FELON SCUMB UNDER THE THUMBS OF THEIR SSG HANDLERS FOLLOWING ME 24-7-365...I might have identified many more than I did ( which was over 100) with my camera phone and my small video camera can that i did carry...
I also carried a few different SPY PENS and got
GREAT UP CLOSE FACIAL PICTURES OF ABOUT
25-30 of the "Advance Special teams" the SSG DEPLOY AT THE VERY BEGINNING...BEFORE THEY REALLY WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE FOLLOWING YOU.

^^^that being said, I WISHED I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN TWO GOOD ONES BUT WAS STUPID AND DID NOT.

I SAY KEEP IT...$200 is one less cigar order and
It gives you peace of mind.
All these dash cam videos "hold up in court" when
Police get killed in traffic stops...why wouldn't they hold up in accident reports?

Get a dash cam. Make sure it points driversside window as well. Cops body cams only seem to work when they exonerate them. When they are accused of doing something wrong they magically don’t work for some reason. I’m sure it’s innocent. Bring your own to the party.
