I took my dog for a walk by the river on Sunday morning and when we got home I was petting her and felt, what I initialy thought was a seed or bit of cheet (sp?) grass. But it was a tick with its jaws clenched tight onto her skin.

I've never seen a tick before and it gave me the heebie jeebies. We got rid of the tick fine and Dazey is acting normaly, and where the tick was attached is a bit red, but other than that I think everything is OK.

The reason I'm writing this is because now every time I get an itch or maybe I imagine an itch or something in the wind touches me, I get all creeped out that I might have a tick and I get the heebie jeebies all over again. LOL @ myself. Freakin' ticks.

There are several procedures for tick removal; the primary concern being that the head doesn't break off in the flesh when you tug it out.

My dog gets them from time to time, and the redness goes away. If it doesn't, there may be tick parts still inside.

hows THAT for creepy!!

My dog got a tick once. He wasnt in very deep. So it was no big deal.

What was really scary is when this same dog got bit by a rattler!

You guys don't get out pond or river fishing much, huh. Seriously though, ticks and chiggers are an ever present part of nature here in Kansas. Especially around the lakes, ponds and rivers. You just learn to deal with them.

My advice -- Stay out of the tall grass. Keep deep woods off on the shoes, socks and jeans. Wear shirts with a collar and check yourself well in the shower after spending time in the great outdoors.

We use Frontline on our dogs. The ticks sometimes take a ride but they don't bite.

Ticks are really bad in this part of PA. My daughter had one inbed in her skin so bad we had to take her to the ER. She also got lyme disease when she was 6. Right after she was diagnosed, our dog was also diagnosed.

I can handle ticks. I have a problem with mosquitoes. They are so big at the new house, they look like they could carry you away. Oh and spiders... yuck.

Ticks and and other blood sucking insects are plentiful here in Kentucky, and with kids and camping we get our share.

My bride has the perfect solution for making a tick let go: nail polish remover pads. Thats right - nail polish remover pads. Ticks hate the stuff. Just rub a pad over the tick for a few seconds and then leave the pad on the tick. Give it a few more seconds and your tick will let go and run for its life.

I was using advantage for my cat. Only works on fleas, so I switched to Frontline Plus. Great stuff.

To remove a tick is actually very easy. Light a match, blow it out and put the still hot match on the ticks body. It'll back out, quick like, then you squish it.

btw, a couple hours after applying, the ticks and flea's fall off dead... so you may want to keep your pet outside for awhile
