In general, what should I be looking for in an UHDTV?

Seems I can get a 60" unit for $700 and for $3500.

I'm sure there are differences.


Picture
Type of Smart TV
Input/Output (USB vs HDMI and how many).


I knew everything about the latest tech when I bought my solid state RCA console set.
Actually a nice 42" plasma.

I'm interested, as well. Page the other TG... he'll know. Maybe even have a recommendation.

I've got a 37" Vizio in my man cave that I've had for years. Got it at Costco for $750 (back before HDTV's got cheap). I've been peeping some sweet Smart TV's in Sam's club the last few weeks... but I'm old, and frugal... and until this one stops working, it seems a waste of money to me. 🌫

Contrast ratio and refresh rate. You want your refresh rate to display at least 60mhz @ 4k resolution. Most TV's only support 30mhz @ 4k.

Trust me on this one because when you couple it with a high powered UHD Bluray player it looks twice as smooth.

lol, tv's long since passed "good enough".

We got a 4k tv in our conference room mainly for clear text rendering. As far as tv and movies?

Meh... We're long past good enough.

Plasma's are pretty ancient tech though, the burn in sucks. So you need a new tv for sure.

Better off focusing on good audio IMO.

I'll agree with JJA though, the higher the framerate the better. I'd rather have a 120 HZ 1080p personally.

Do the latest LED's produce less heat?

My two 55" plasmas run pretty hot...but they had better viewing angles and blacks back in the day, 11 and 6 year old...they still work fine though...

I've got a 10 year old 48" plasma that's showing weird chit in dark scenes.. might have to make a change soon.. might just move it to the garage which is usually football watching.. 😟

My two 55" plasmas run pretty hot...but they had better viewing angles and blacks back in the day, 11 and 6 year old...they still work fine though...
