I can't speak for the Navy troops but I'm sure Ron or MACS will be glad to voice their opinion.

After the presentation, the Naval group speaking to us handed out USS Thresher ball caps and lanyards emblazoned with the USS Thresher logo. I've never served in the Navy myself, but I do wear the hat on occasion........never trying to claim recognition for any military activities.

I figure if they handed it out, they intended for us to wear them.........none of the actual crew of the Thresher will ever wear them as all 129 crew members on board that day died at sea. So I say wear it but never claim anything other than owning a hat.........leave the Valor to those who earned it and remember to always thank a member of the Military for their service.

On a side note, many of my family members and friends and their family members served and were touched by loss in Vietnam. I myself did not serve due to medical issues. I wear POW/MIA suspenders, and I have been asked about it, and if I served. I always explain that I didn't serve but many that I know and love did and that I was given the suspenders as a gift from a friend that did. I wear them as a remembrance of friends lost and to show support to those that serve.
