The market was only a good measure of a presidency to stupid people (yes including Obama and Trump).

I've been hearing about a "market correction" for years... all while the dow went up, and up, and up.

I missed out on some serious interest because I played it safe and kept my $$ in a fixed account. *shrug*

I've never been much of a gambler.

If that made him blush he's a puritan. Victor wouldn't have batted an eyebrow, but he's a freak.

IMO investing IS gambling. You're betting the market will go up and not crash... sure, history is on your side, but it has crashed.

My 457 is icing. I shouldn't need it. As it stands I will be able to withdraw 1k a month in interest and never touch the principal.

1k a month is a lot of fishing boat. Just saying.

Short term it can be gambling. Long term it never has been.

Icing is an apt description. Check the fine print in your prospectus. There are management fees tied to every retirement account no matter what you are invested in. At least in our current environment, and for the last decade, if you are in "safe" investments those fees probably equal any earnings.

Valid point... and what the hell do I know, I moved my entire account into the fixed fund just before the market damn near doubled. 🤦
