I love Nian gao, I also had an item that was sesame seed balls that was hallow with some sort of paste in it. The dough balls about the size of golf balls a little bigger and was in a brown liquid that looked like coffee. It was the sweetest tasting thing I think I have ever had and OMG so good.

Years ago some friends invited me to celebrated Chinese New Years at their home. Was one of the best meals I have ever had also I was amazed at how well they hosted their evet. I was made to feel like I was at home and belonged. I got no clue WTF most of the food was but damn good. I miss those folks and damn good friends they were indeed.

It was last month, and started on Feb 16. Festivities can last for about two weeks, so yesterday would've marked the end of New Year's celebrations. Our family had a great New Years feast last Sunday...we Chinese (I'm actually an American, having been born here in L.A.) like to eat when we celebrate special occasions and holidays...

Those fried sesame balls filled with sweet black bean paste are one of my fave type of dim sum, but only when served hot out of the fryer...called jian dui...

It was last month, and started on Feb 16. Festivities can last for about two weeks, so yesterday would've marked the end of New Year's celebrations. Our family had a great New Years feast last Sunday...we Chinese (I'm actually an American, having been born here in L.A.) like to eat when we celebrate special occasions and holidays...

Those fried sesame balls filled with sweet black bean paste are one of my fave type of dim sum, but only when served hot out of the fryer...called jian dui...

Back when I worked for Colombia and Arista Records was when I had met the friends that celebrated. It was a husband and wife that had invited me to their home. All of the food was homemade authentic and was so awesome. I have had them a couple of times since from the "Americanized Restaurants", Does not even compare in taste to authentic. Also, the restaurants never have the coffee looking liquid which might have been something she added to put her own twist to it maybe? I would love to find the authentic recipe. If I was smart I would have asked back then for it but hindsight is 20/20. ](*,)
