It amazes me that Secretariat still holds the fastest time record for all 3 races 45 years later.

To me this says it all. The most recent Triple Crown Champ vs the greatest horse ever. Not even close

Justify won the Preakness but looked gassed at the wire. That is the shortest race in the Crown. Only his fifth race but all five this year. Belmont is the longest race. I don’t see Justify winning against fresh legs in a longer race and with only two weeks rest.

That's kinda wild. I know nothing about horse racing, and I am pretty surprised that a horse couldn't have fresh legs two weeks after any sort of race. Track athletes only get two days off between 5K qualifying and finals at world/Olympic levels. Granted they don't have to face someone walking in who didn't have to run the same qualifying schedule, but still....

All the track athletes had to qualify. Not all the horses have run the Derby and the Preakness. Justify ran away with the Derby. It was a close and closing race at the Preakness against many of the same horses. Owners did not race Justify as a 2 year old (all of last year). Besides fatigue, the horse has to deal with being trailered to another state and setting up in unfamiliar barns/stalls. That is why there have only been a few Triple Crown winners in the last 127 years.

That was pretty cool to watch, but it looked like American Pharaoh had more at the end. A 4 second gap was closed to 2.65 by the end, so AP was running faster down the stretch if he closed that gap.

True but the outcome of the race for AP was in doubt much later than for Secretariat so he stepped off the gas much sooner. Regardless, two amazing horses.

I cant wait until Justify gets here. I wasn't working here for American Pharaoh so I am very much looking forward to this.

Also, working Belmont Stakes Day is mandatory (I know you all feel bad for me) and I will be helping move around all the trophies for all the stakes races that day, including the big one, which is the 150th running.

We will treat him just fine when he gets here in two weeks.

And there have only been 12 Triple Crown winners in history. Perhaps the toughest crown in all of sports.

So....who is going to win?

No triple crown, another dud wins the first two races in the slop none the less and will lose the third leg. Seen it too many times and I don't even follow horse racing.

Big Red was a freak. I remember it like it was yesterday. Horse racing in KY is in our blood from birth. I still get teared up when I rewatch him race. I used to have an uncashed winning KY Derby ticket on Secretariat. Don't know what happened to it over the years. My dad probably has it somewhere. 🌫

Justify is worthy of all the hype...great horse. Smith barely touched him down the stretch...the horse seemed to be in cruise control all the way.

The lack of any real challenger may take some shine off this Triple Crown winner...Alydar enhanced Affirmed's reputation...their historic rivalry elevated both...

Agreed, but he beat more horses (35) than any other Triple Crown winner so plenty had their chance and failed.

It'd be nice to see him run a bunch more races, but he's worth more as a sperm donor...
