BISBEE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A man had to go to the hospital after a bobcat went at him while walking his dog in Bisbee on Sunday morning in an "atypical" attack, according to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

The victim said during a walk in the area of Della Street and Barnett Road around 7:15 a.m. he saw a bobcat running toward him, CCSO said.

He let his dog go and shouted for him to go home.

The man said the bobcat didn't go after the dog, and went after him instead, lunging at him and tearing at his left arm, according to CCSO.

The dog reached home and the man's wife got into her car to try to find her husband.

The bobcat continued to attack the man until his wife found him and honked her horn, CCSO said.

The victim was rushed to Copper Queen hospital where deputies said he was treated for significant damage to his left forearm, left bicep and left arm.

He was released from the hospital but needs more treatment, CCSO said.

The United States Department of Agriculture the behavior of the bobcat was out of the ordinary and advised people in the area should use caution until the animal is found.

USDA personnel is working with the Arizona Game and Fish Department to try and find the bobcat.

I can't imagine not carrying in a region where there are very dangerous wild animals.

I have seen two bobcats in the last few weeks on my morning walks. They have no interest in people, just looking for a bunny or quail.

Rabies is a serious concern.

OTOH, it might be one quick way to cover the anti-vaccination nutters, because once you contract rabies, you are going to die a terrible death. That said, there is actually is significant danger to your health from taking the anti rabies series, including encephalitis and death. I'm sure in this case it was a no brainer.
