Do missionaries help or harm?


Well, I think it all depends on how much she is into it.

Since now I am partially blind, If she helps guide me to the hole I would call that help. If not and I hit the wrong hole and she makes that high pitch dolphin sound I would say then its harmful for her vocal cords?

I guess that would be my position.

I not convinced, there are a lot of mormons and evangelicals with a lot of children, their guidance seams to be on target. 🍺

If you're speaking specifically about the missionary who tried to go to the island of inbreds that's quickly dwindling in population and will likely be extinct within our lifetime, then say so...

What you did was paint all missionaries and the work they did as misguided... If you're not ignorant, then you're a monster... But you're likely just ignorant...

There's been good work by some missionaries, no question. But even the 'best' go with an agenda, the value of which (to those getting missioned) is certainly debatable, even by the non-monstrous.

Opel, why direct anger towards a mild question? There are a whole lot of missionaries that do an awful lot of good. To improve indigenous peoples lives is a worthy cause. To share your belief system with indiginous people is noble. Same goes for third world countries where people live in squalor. Even though my belief system is far different than any missionaries is I do very much respect the work they do.

Paid attention, wasn't addressing it... I was addressing your personal attack on the work of all missionaries ever... in case you weren't paying attention...

Honestly, if we talked about specific instances and people, I think we would agree about 99% of the time...

The guy who went to inbred island in the name of Jesus and got to meet up with him as a result, 0% of me feels bad for him... But about 1% of me feels like if he really wanted to do it and felt led to do it, he should be allowed to do it... I'm not gonna sponsor him but I'm not enforcing the blockade...

That same 1% of me feels like the inbreds should totally be allowed to arrow-up any visitors to their freak show island... Adds to the thrill of the visit...

The problem, or rather my problem, is when you lump that guy and his work in with people like my cousin Mark... Mark had a drug problem, went to jail, found Jesus... When he got out He didn't want to get sucked back into old ways and didn't trust himself with money... He moved to cambodia part time to help run an orphanage...

He now lives there full time with his wife and kids... Does he share his faith in Jesus? You bet... But do you have to be a Christian or accept his faith to play on the kids soccer team he started and funds? Definitely not... Do you have to be a fellow believer to have the only giant white guy in town pull your truck out of the mud? For sure not...

He does those things from a sincere place of love for the people around him... The same reason he shares his faith... If he really believed what he does and didn't share his faith, he'd be a d*ck...

What about contacting remote groups that some scientist do not want contacted so they can study the stone age cultures? Maybe they would like to visit a store, not dies of infections and enjoy some modern conveniences?
