I didn't even know the Tampa place had auctions....haven't set virtual foot near them in over a decade

A lot of folks didn't know. I was killing it there about 6 - 7 years ago as traffic was very light. That's the place I won those 50 PAM 64s at. I think I paid something like $5-$6 each. IIRC, I snaged 3 boxes of Undercrown Toros for $73 - $78 per box, and a box or two of WOAM for under $100. Also won serveral boxes of Pepin's stuff for cheap. Then the word got out and the bids went through the roof. I haven't even looked at that place in years, and have no interest to do so in the future.

Problem with auction platforms, is there's not a huge market for auction platforms.

I get that. ....what are the chances that cbid developed and maintains the site with in house talent?

Not saying they aren't closely related....it would just sting a little....since I've done so much business here.....and dislike the other guys so much....I would feel a little duped

I would say it's more likely they sourced it to a local development company, then just had them re-purpose the codebase for the new site.

No need to feel duped as it appears the guys you didn't like got replaced with the guys you do.

Happens...

I suppose the guys that you don't like could have found the devs for the people you do like and had them resell them the same software... but I think that would have likely ended with a cease and desist to the bad guys... in which case the site would not look like it currently does.

Oh, and I found and article confirming the acquisition...

You do know that "that other place" is owned by this place?

Your "other place" must not be the same as my "other place"...

There's 4 auction houses
One REALLY suqs...
One kinda suqs.....but one can win some higher end stuff at decent prices sometimes

the other two have been battling it out for a long time......one is cbid.....the other is the "other place"

I don't know what kotc bids on at the place that auctioneers cigars, but I didn't notice any obviously new prices... The Tampa place had a couple of offensive starting prices though, so I'm guessing that's what kotc was talking about..

Yeah......I mentioned this quite a while ago......and ALSO mentioned that I was hoping the "other place" wouldn't cave in to the offers that are sure to come...

The minotaurs of yore are part of the problem....talking around the various business relationships and rarely acknowledging facts, even when laid out....been m.o. to just deny any relationships.....except when they didn't

For any noobs still wondering what we're talking about, this is me NOT mentioning the competitor's name:

The ___________ submachine gun is the "Chicago Typewriter" of gangster lore.

Fred ___________ used to try to sell you reverse mortgages on TV commercials until he died.

The ___________/Center Contender is a nice single-shot firearm.

From what I've read, ___________ is now under the same ownership umbrella as CigarBid, "the mothership", and its various other arms.

Therefore, ___________'s auction site being just like CigarBid's site isn't a shocker.

Hope that helps. Note that I did NOT mention the name! 🇨🇮

Interesting....I assumed he was talking about a place with a cigar auctioneer....which is, I think, very different from this place

Correct...
And in the last few months, some seriously offensive starting bid price hikes..............or should I say corrections?

They seem to be doing some experimenting with starting prices....some quite high..some not so much...I 'accidentally' won nearly $500 worth over the last couple weeks

Yes they do, and have been for a while.
There are still good deals to be had for certain mid range cigars.
I was just beeching cause a few of my favs jumped pretty seriously in starting bid prices....
Sometimes they lower starting bid prices........maybe I'll get lucky...
