Imagine if you might for a moment, a less than scrupulous insurance company... (so... what I'm saying, is all of them have probably thought finding a way to do this)...

What happens if they're able to use this system to see if you're related to anyone in their system who happened to have a highly inheritable and costly disease?

That genie is already out of the bottle with electronic medical records quickly slapped online nationwide in the early 2000s. You get a a relative with a big, expensive disease, word gets around. Many health insurers share more information than we know. It will eventually be leaked to employers from headhunters.

Damn, Now I am going to have to read the book and see if I can get my hands on the movie.

It is wild that during that cast they got to speaking about the issues of when Germany took the cells, sequenced them, then turn and posted some medical info about the daughters possible health risk online without even checking with any of the family first. I would have hit the roof.

You give out your DNA for testing there no telling where you might end up.

umm when they say "disposal of all genetic material" what does that actually mean. Does that mean they just threw the sample cup o spooge in the trash or does that mean they threw it along with all record material/data/paperwork/wiped all harddrives/magnatized all the email servers they sent the info through etc..... you get where I am going with this.
😲

Recently completed a logo design for a new start-up that will provide a personalized diet and nutrition plan based on your DNA test. It's quickly becoming the new diet fad.. The company guarantees complete privacy and disposal of all genetic material once the test is complete.

Guarantees complete privacy..... or ... what? How is the user indemnified? Do they get to choose the amount? And as their system is breached and everyone wants their (truly) blood money, the guarantee turns into a Bankruptcy claim.

Ok, I'm in. I'm going to mail in a 55 gallon of spit, blood, fecal matter and seemen in the morning.

What could possibly go wrong?

A simple mouth swab is all that is required. My understanding is that once the test is complete, the sample submitted and test results are incinerated. The only thing kept on record is the diet & nutrition plan. I wasn't paid to fully understand the company's inner workings. I was only paid to design their logo. A number of other companies offering similar diet & nutrition plans are popping up, and being used within the fitness & bodybuilding community. I don't endorse or condone such practices. Only offering awareness on another method DNA tests are being used.
