Limited on coho salmon and halibut. Dad caught a 13-14 pound rainbow trout as well.

Brought 100 pounds of fillets back between us. We only fished 3 days. The other 7 days we just explored.

I've always wondered why every seems to love bass fishing compared to trout fishing. I haven't done much bass fishing but they seem to be a lot easier to catch verses trout. Is it down to simple geography? It's too warm for trout in the southern state's I'm guessing but it just seems like fishing culture is really focused on bass. Am I the only one to notice this? I don't have anything against bass fishing just curious as to why it seems to inspire such passion. I do most of my fishing in fast water and I've watched trout swallow my bait, give me the people's eyebrow and then spit the hook back at me. Are bass just as tricky?

CB - I fished for both as a kid. Trout had a season, bass did not. Bass were certainly easier to catch because they're more aggressive, more plentiful and you could fish for them year round. Trout are finicky.

Huh. I had no idea you could fish for bass year round. I always assumed every kind of sport fishing was seasonal. It makes sense though. I suppose bass can spawn year round with the warmer temps versus trout, most of which spawn seasonally. I've fished some places that have a naturally healthy population of brook trout, meaning no stocking and their meat is pink almost like salmon because they eat crayfish almost exclusively. They are some of the smartest fish I've ever fished for and they fight like demons. You think you've hooked a fish that's 3lbs and 24" long only to land it and it's 6" and under a pound.

If freshwater bass are as aggressive as their saltwater cousin's I can see why people love to fish for them. A fish that never stops growing and can reach 7' and 500lbs in saltwater. I just read some articles about them while looking for bass info. Apparently they are great for divers because they are a really big and curious fish. Could you imagine having 6 or 8 of these guys all coming up to you at once and only stopping a few feet from you? They can also instantly change their color to warn other fish of danger! Had no idea they could do that.

Anyone ever caught a really big freshwater bass? What's the biggest fish you guys have caught of any species?

I got an amberjack in Florida that was 25 lbs, and a Mahi out of San Diego that was 25 lbs. Those are my 2 biggest.

I've caught a 7 lb bass in a local lake (Vail) and a 5 lb sand bass down at the Coronado Islands (MX).

I wanted to beat my personal best this year but, while I have had some fun catching these tuna, none have been over 25 lbs. Yet.
