My folks took us to Honolulu when we were young. The Arizona memorial made a major impression on me, and I wasn't very old. 10 or 12 maybe. The solemnity of that site is staggering. There was a survivor there that day, they emptied the memorial and took him out by himself. One of the staff explained and apologized for the delay, but I don't think there was one person there that minded, but if there were they didn't voice it.

I learned a lot that day. I've learned a lot more over the years, that the whole debacle wasn't and isn't as cut and dried as it was presented. But history seldom is. Men make and write history, and men are fallible. I've been back there many times over the years. It always made a strong impression. A lot of good men lost.

Recent history? I definitely think that we need to step our screening game up. The events in Pensacola were not the first time this has happened, and the folks involved were from the same place. I don't believe in coincidence. 👎

This gun isn't as valuable as a prewar sample, but that's what keeps making me think twice about it. I could have that gun back in my collection, same as the one I sold except it's worth a lot less simply because of its serial number. Guy's selling about $100 under market value for a postwar in similar condition. I could shoot it, I could work it and reblue and have a nice old gun back in my safe.

I've slept on it for two days and still want it. I think I'll give it two more and then make a decision if he's still got it listed.
