Fouts piloting Air Coryell were innovative, but didn't win big...they had only a few playoff appearances...

it wasn't until Bill Walsh coached Montana/Young and Rice to several Super Bowl wins in the early 80's (ty MACS) that pass first spread offenses became the mode of attack in the NFL...

league and fans loved this more exciting brand of football, so rules were slowly changed to reward the passing game and hinder defenses...

honestly, although I grew up with the run first macho defensive style 60's - 70's NFL, today's game is more entertaining and allows exceptional athletes to showcase their skills while reducing the incidence of injuries to the most valuable player on the field...yet we still see QB's like Luck retire before their time

In 1969 I saw San Diego State coached by Coryell play Long Beach State and was mesmerized by the amount of passing and the offense the two teams generated. Dennis Shaw was the QB for SDS and Leon Burns was the power running back for LBS. Both played in the NFL.

Anyway, from our end zone seats, we could see how the receiver routes were much more complicated than anything else our Pop Warner team ran so it was no surprise when Coryell went to St. Louis, the NFL defenses were ill prepared for his air attack.

That wasn't really the point. I'm just saying that it's a team sport. Without support, no one would ever know how good any of them are. I liked Terry, he was a personable cat. But it's not really that big a deal. Just an observation.

So TW and I are the same age.
And MACS is the same age as my wife.

That's my take on this thread.

Awesome sendoff by the Giants fans! They appreciated what he did for the franchise !

And as Phil Simms and the postgame crew said, Eli was the consummate Professional, and definitely a HOFer!

He always gave credit to his teammates!

Thank you ELI!!!

The Manning family are always professional.
But Eli deserves the hall as much as Cooper.
