So I smoked my first Monte 2 today. Great smoke but I must admit I was expecting more. Would definitely smoke another but if I had a choice I'd reach for a Bolivar or Silgo 1. There are atleast 5 or 6 others I could name off the top of my head I'd reach for first. So, have I committed some kind of blaspheme in the cigar world or is this the opinion of most people?Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed it. But, I don't think I'd order another box over some others unless it started raining money (pauses and looks up..... nothin.. damn) Maybe if it had more time on it? This one has about 3 years on it. Opinions?

Personally, I'd rather a Monte no. 1. The edmundos are all solid too, but the no. 1 has been my favorite. I've also had some no. 5 that have been wonderful little firecrackers, but if I'm shopping Monte right now, no 1, double Edmundo are probably what I'm looking at the most. Petite Edmundo have been pretty solid too. The no. 2 is somewhat over-produced like the no 4, at least that is my understanding.

inconsistent. a good one can be great though.
it's a risk/reward thing...I haven't purchased any in years, but a couple have ranked on my best evah mental list, and a few have landed on my most frustrating list

The Monte #2 brings up some great memories. It makes it taste even better. On the other hand, I have had a few that have sucked.

If you have an entire box expect 5-7 amazing sticks,5-7 good sticks,5-7 mediocre sticks and 5-7 sticks that suck azz.This is why I no longer indulge...….too much inconsistency.Best thing you can do is put them to rest for 3-5 years and hope for the best.

I quit buying them because the construction and blend are so inconsistent. Edmundos and Double Edmundos are more reliable.

I've only had a handful of great ones but man were they great

The bad ones I've had seem to disappoint me more than other bad cigars

Yep to many duds to make the good ones worth the time and money.

Many better choices that are much more consistent and enjoyable to smoke.

not sure why...maybe the torpedo shape...but the Bolivar belis don't seem as inconsistent as the Monte #2...I remember getting a box a few years ago, after it was anointed Cigar of the Year by CA...they were a huge disappointment...(as have been most COTY by CA)

stick with the Edmundos for consistently good Monte experience...

I have never had a dip2. You guys think they are similar to the monte in anything other than appearance? They have similar construction issues?

I'm with CBD, I prefer the #1's, I actually must've got a couple of good boxes of the No. 4's, I prefer the smaller ring gauges on Monte's. The Especial are really good with age, but I haven't seen them available for a few years. DOn't really need to be buying anymore, I'm already likely to be outlived by my cigars and liquor!!

On that note, LMAO! Whistlebritches is already trying to get in my will, hehe

Around 2005 MACS sent me a Monte #2 when I had a herf with his friend Echo4Alpha. Obviously, that one was memorable.

As others said, the good ones are among the best but I haven't bought in many years due to the inconsistency.

I happen to get some the year that they were rated #1 by CA and all the ones I had were very good with a couple being spectacular (no duds) but even then the inconsistency was present......hard to justify the $ when I ❤️ PLPC, Boli PC and Mag 46 at a much cheaper price. Still haven’t gotten a #1 yet gonna put that on the to do list.

Also sent one or two to Trish for Christmas, I believe her husband smoked it and enjoyed it quite a bit.

I never stocked many and don't even know if I have any left at this point. Personally was never much of a fan of any pointy cigars anyway.
