I'm gobsmacked. Rush has pretty much always been my favorite band. I was 12 the first time I saw them and the last time (the last tour) I took my daughter. RIP Neil and thanks for the music

Just heard about it. Really glad I took my son to see them a few years ago.

RIP Neil

Unfortunately, there is no Rush without him.

I would say that was more fortunate than unfortunate and I think that Alex and Geddy understand this better than anyone. Ever heard a Rush cover band? I haven't. I've heard bands butcher Rush songs but those 3 guys together made magic. More than any other band I can think of, Rush is those 3 guys only. I'm sure Alex and Geddy will make more music but it won't be as Rush. Rush is gone....as it should be.

Yeah, I went to quite a few concerts, but him playing the 2112 tour was absolutely one of, if not THE VERY BEST EVER!

RIP, he lost his daughter when she was 19, his first wife a little later to Cancer and he has passed far too young. He had admitted that arthritis was keeping him from being his best, but he still performed.

I totally agree that they are/were the VERY BEST trio of players that could produce some amazing songs and sounds for just three people!! AND, NO, I don't think anyone else could ever try and pull off as a "cover" of them, for certain.

I watched him play a drum solo in Nashville in '77, maybe, the 2112 tour and I was able to walk from the floor to the upper level walkway and get right behind his drum setup and continue watching him until the solo turned back into the regular song. It had to be over ten minutes, NON-STOP! He had chimes, tubular bells, and ONE HELLUVA a drum setup nestled inside all that!! There will NEVER be another!

I'll get lambasted for saying so, but I always found his drumming devoid of emotion.

Technically, he may have been the greatest drummer in rock.
But give me Sabbath's Bill Ward. Or Moon the Loon. Bonzo. Frosty (played with Lee Michael).

It's subjective. But I always wanted to like Rush better than I did.
Musically they're top notch. Had to be, to counter Geddy's screeching voice.
Some of their songs are magical. But mostly it's three highly technical but sterile musicians playing the same song.

Change my mind.

Pretty sure I saw them in concert in the 80's... memories are kinda fuzzy thru those years... 🤔
