Why would a very wealthy Canadian forego treatment in Canada and come to the USA for treatment..?:-k

The procedure I had was invented and perfected in Canada (Toronto). The best surgeon doing it is likely in Japan, and I sought out perhaps best here. Always arguable.

Cancer is one of those things that often you want to seek out the location that specializes in that particular cancer. That’s what Lance Armstrong did and likely why he survived if you can believe anything he wrote in it’s not about the bike. Good book by the way. Still worthy of a read. As a side note he had no insurance when diagnosed and Oakley did him a solid by reworking he contract in to an employee based arrangement rather than independent contractor. Great for him, not so much their other employees if self funded. Nice system we have.

Canadians bitch about their health system, Americans bitch about ours. Both have merit, neither is perfect. For most catastrophic illnesses the US will be the place to be. Most, not all. For preventative care and true HEALTH care. Not so much. We are severely lacking especially considering our resources.

It’s not either or though. Like most things if you over simplify and make it us or them, black or white, and vilify the side you don’t chose you are likely not on solid ground.

I'm not the best at research but a few years ago an American family had to go through gyrations to get into Cuba several times to treat one of their loved ones for a cancer for which Cuban medicine was the acknowledged world leader...that specific Cancer.

I've done well living near Boston...so far.

I’ve had to travel to Houston for cancer, and Cleveland for my heart. But the health care in KC is very good for most things. If I lived in Boston there is a good chance I would not have needed to travel for either.

As for my procedure I had the root of my aorta replaced and the original valve reimplanted. There is a doc in Japan that replaces the entire arch because he does so in the same time our docs replace just the root. That’s impressive. You can legitimately argue either side of need to do so but it is impressive. He does so many of them it’s routine.
