http://nypost.com/2020/02/29/think-trump-is-outrageous-hes-nothing-compared-to-these-past-presidents/

This is an interesting article, perspective someone sent me. Yes, I know the source is very conservative. But the article is accurate as far as I can tell. It is giving me pause to think.

I mean.... what you're saying is that all these different presidents each did different really bad things. And trump is doing some percentage of each of the things.

Not quite as fascist as Wilson during wartime, and not quite as racist as Johnson.

But still both fascist and racist. Just not as bad on either account as our worst presidents were.

kind of difficult to judge past POTUS accurately...one quality of leadership is knowing and empathizing with those who selected you to lead...societal norms have changed...many of the behaviors that were deemed appropriate only 50 years ago are now considered uncivil and anti-social...

imagine what would happen if a business owner posted a "whites only" sign on his front door today...that was legal and very common throughout the US a little more than 50 years ago...there were plenty of public universities that were whites only then, legally...

racism and sexism were acceptable not that long ago...exploitation of labor and the environment were acceptable business practices...

so it may not be an honest way to compare POTUS by looking back with current lenses: rather a more accurate analysis would look at how our society has evolved and then looking at how the POTUS's behavior comports with the norms of his time...

Some good points Delta

I grew up in times when racism was rampant. So much so that it was almost “normal” unfortunately.
And it wasn’t confined to the Deep South, it was nationwide.

Sadly there are morons still so close minded that they can’t see their own bigotry

Meh, logic and facts mean nothing to Trump haters.

FWIW, LBJ and McNamara (deservedly) will not be treated kindly by history. They probably should have been prosecuted as war criminals.

Trump haters.

It begs the question what moral American would not hate such an amoral man who would continue to disgrace our country. To make us the laughing stock of the world, free or not.

During the last administration, the right endlessly claimed the high moral ground. Obama waisting money playing golf. Infringing on Americans rights to hate. Where are they now?

Justice is an abstract concept that rarely visits reality.

But maybe if they got Bill Murray....

I would think most of the world now respects or fears the USA... as opposed to think they can walk on us like the prior administration... 😟
