A super secret Deep State that everyone knows about... populated by long employed establishment agents who are anti-republican but are in agencies which have historically hired from the army and police.

forgive my disbelief.

Some random thoughts that went through my mind while reading it....I don't necessarily have answers or opinions on all of them, but I think the writer should consider some of them on his or her follow up piece

-Is the president only beholden to those that voted for him?

-Is the president just as obligated to protecting future Americans as voters? If voters (maybe 20% of population?) demand the president do something that 80% of the population believe is shortsighted and detrimental to the future....should he do it?

-Isn't it possible that America's long term best interests might best be served with some short term concessions to global or foreign interests?

-I do agree that subordination from within a branch is toxic -- lawful orders must be followed; loyalty is important - not more important than laws and regulations and lawful acts, but important; but I will often give the benefit of the doubt to whistleblower-type claims if I think they're done in good faith and there may just be questions of interpretation
