Exactly, no tools in your RV? Turn in that man card.

I think I probably would've taken the opportunity to have myself a nap.

Just think, it would be hours before anyone came to disturb you. And with the door broken, would've taken a few more.

Well, there's a back story to that.

A buddy of mine was up one weekend, and my Dad had just given me a case of blue plastic 9mm "practice" ammunition that he had got from the "Sportsmans Guide" and I had been playing around with. In the box was this other stuff, "Training" ammo that had a metal case and this plastic looking bullet, only black he had got from the same place at the same time.

So we were in my basement **** around with the blue "practice" stuff shooting at a piece of plywood watching them shatter. The report is a light "Pop" and you have to cycle the slide by had. They left a very very light dent in the plywood back stop.

My buddy said "Let's try one of the other ones." Ok. I load a mag of those up and "BAM!" Much much louder, there is a hole throught the plywood, and when we checked that out, into/through the concrete wall of my basement. WHOA!

"One of these things, is not like the others!" Come to find out these damn things have a steel core, and a much hotter powder charge. Crap.

Our ears are ringing, the basement is smokey, we finally go upstairs, and my wife is still sitting up there reading..

"Hey, didn't you hear that shot?"

"Yes, I heard it."

"You didn't feel the need to check to see if we were ok?"

"I figured one of you would come up sooner or later and we would sort the story out then."

It occurs to me this experience is a good thing. Heave forbid, but what if there was a fire or something blocked the door in an emergency, how would you get out quickly?

Oh, at that point you simply kick the door open, fairly easy, even for DP!
Now an elderly, weak person??
And if something blocked the door....from the outside?
Gotta do what DP did I suppose, or smash out the dinette window.

My wife is out of town visiting relatives, so I'm home alone. Yesterday I needed to retrieve something from our RV (30' 5th wheel). I shut the door behind me, retrieved the item, but when I pulled on the door handle to leave, I heard something snap inside the door. The door handle broke internally, and the door would not open. I don't have my phone and I'm too far away from neighbors to yell for help. First I look around for a screw driver to take the handle apart. No such luck. Then I take a kitchen knife and try to pry back the striker. Not enough clearance to get it in. Then I remember that there is an emergency fire escape window up in the master bedroom (the highest part of the 5th wheel. All other windows are either fixed glass, or have a tiny crank out vent. The bedroom window is my only choice. I remove the screen and disconnect the bottom latch. The window is hinged from the top, but something is stuck and I can't remove it. That means I will have to fight against the free swinging window to make my escape. I put one leg out the window, but there is not enough room to swing the other leg out, as the window only measures 30" wide x 20" high. Finally I lay face down on the bed, push myself out feet first, grab the window frame, lower myself, and drop the final 3' to 4' to the ground. The whole time the swinging window is smacking me on my back, the back of my head and my arms.

Not bad for a 62 year, old fart. I'm so glad my wife and I went Keto, as my former, much heavier self probably wouldn't have made it out the window.

The handle still works from the outside, so that's not a problem. I just ordered a replacement from Amazon.

Despite someone locking DPN out of CBID, there were still no great auction deals to be had.
