Defending?

Look through my posts over the years and think to yourself whether it would seem logical that I would defend anyone who took medical advice from our moron of a president.

Does that seem consistent at all to you?

Yet that's the stance you take?

Not every situation is "win/lose"... sometimes both the idiots blaming the president for giving them medical advice AND the idiot president giving medical advice are BOTH losers.

And you're upset I'm pessimistic when someone's trying to give you hope that a cure will come and save you?

I'm pointing out issues with the study in which they are trying to prove the cure will work. That's not pessimism... that's actual reality.

Are you seriously on here upset because I'm not willing to join in with the blowing of smoke up your ass just because it makes you feel bad?

The thing is we need to compare results to that of placebos or it could be catastrophic. I know it’s inconvenient and needs to be streamlined but it must be done. And there are other equally promising approaches that we must do the same.

But I still hope and pray it works.

speaking of prayer...some pastors are claiming they have cured a few of their infected and sick members...how do we validate those claims?

we've trusted the FDA to establish safety standards and reviewable testing protocols...I certainly hope they can fast track their tests of these drugs that have anecdotally been cures...

wonder if there have there been anecdotal reports where there have been less than positive outcomes, besides the idiots who took fish aquarium chems...I'm skeptical if all we hear are 100% cures when administering this combo of drugs... they don't do that even when treating malaria...

Yup, the placebo effect can be really powerful. Placebo saline injections are documented to sometimes cure even terminal cancer if the patient is led to believe they're powerful cure drugs. In one case, the patient later discovered it had just been saline, and his tumors returned and he died.

If you're thinking, "gee that makes it sound like our current understanding of science is incomplete" then yeah, pretty much. However, mainstream doctors and researchers tend to not want to think about this (addiction to current-era established assumptions/beliefs) and while they'll happily discuss placebos for simpler things like pain reduction that ARE reasonably explainable under our current scientific paradigm, they do the "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" bit and quickly change the subject when you start to point out and ask about the cases that are NOT. These cases, being documented fact, presumably WILL be explainable someday under a future, expanded understanding of science and medicine, but under today's worldview and assumptions they are not.

So sure, placebo could be a big factor here, that's why we do the controlled studies. However, a large number of anecdotal successes still carry some weight, just not definitive weight.

The cool thing is, both these two drugs were safety tested and FDA-approved decades ago, so that part of the process is already done. Effectiveness evaluation for this new use, however, is still pending.

Stay tuned!

The folks I work with are much more open minded that that but do demand the scientific method and data.

That said I have told my doc many times if a placebo will work give me that. It’s the outcome that is important.

They're finding now that it can work even if you know it's a placebo, with no blinding whatsoever, provided the doctor tells you that it might help anyway.

Interesting stuff.

we need more doctors who can convincingly pull off the "take this...it will help" chat

The virus is real i don't doubt that... but it almost feels like a test of nation wide behavior... 🤔

It’s real.

You know it’s also possible a drug can be taken and someone gets better having nothing to do with the drug.

It’s also possible the next person taking it has catastrophic effects due to it. That’s why the trials are done.

That’s not saying it won’t work. It’s saying it’s not proven

I still hope it’s true.

I agree... but i find it interesting how well the country is following shelter in place orders... to some extent anyways... I'm not staying home but limiting my travel... 😟

I deal with epidemiologists every day. Haven’t found one that will minimize it like some want to all of them say we will see worse on this one but fear the next one more.

When trump says no one could have seen or predicted this he is an idiot. It was widely sent and predicted. He didn’t believe as did many of his like. They still don’t want to.

There will be a next one. A worse next one. It is predictable and not a surprise. This one was not a surprise either despite what the great orange liar says.

I didn’t make it his fault. He’s just a denial like he is a birther. He didn’t make the virus. He just didn’t believe it early enough and still goes back and forth.

He constantly says no one could have believed this. Bs. I personally worked on some of the stuff he discounted.

Yea he was asleep at the switch and it was intentional.

So yea. You may not like it but it’s true. He’s not responsible for the virus, just his reaction or lack there of. It’s not like folks weren’t trying to get him to believe and to start things up. He and his minions denied and refused to take action.

What could he have done different..?? 😕
