I often have heard of "Barnyard" smell with maduro cigars in particular. I bought a bundle of cigars that I regularly buy and some of them have an overpowering taste and smell of manure. I am wondering if this is a stage of curing that they are going through and it will go away. The smell is so wretched that I can't smoke them in my cigar cave. I have to smoke them outside.

[gonzo] Hey, how do you know what manure tastes like ?

If that’s the only thing you smell at first, that’s not a good sign. Plenty of cigars that I’ve smoked initially had that “rich” smell as one of several aromas and they never detracted from the overall smoke. IMO.
